The one foe even Spidey cannot defeat -- the Dreaded Deadline Doom!
Yeah, this is tailor-made. No highway exits, minimal crossings, only one hill. I'll be getting off work at 9:00 PM, but with a hi-vis vest and some lights the ride home will be doable.
What if I saved up over the winter -- saving up will be a thing I can do, with a steady paycheck -- and got myself an e-bike for my birthday? WHAT THEN
Is it goofy that one of the things I'm most excited about re: the new job is that it's only two miles from my house and I could conceivably commute on foot much of the year? Or by bicycle?
JAWS wrapped up in the wee hours, and for the last 40 minutes of the film, in the sky the behind the screen you could see a slow-rolling thunderstorm creeping in from miles away, occasional flashes of distant lightning punctuating the onscreen action, light summer rain starting halfway home. Magic.
Oh, tons! Most recent was FURIOSA, and the drive-in was the perfect venue for the experience. The oddest match-up was David Lowery's very artsy THE GREEN KNIGHT.

Most epic: A double bill of JURASSIC PARK and JAWS the first pandemic summer.
Name a FIlm you saw at a Drive In Theater.
Also: Include alt-text with your images, or people will immediately peg you as thoughtless and rude, and they will be right to do so.
A brief thread on alt-text.

Alt text is descriptive text that conveys the meaning of an image. It's designed to make visual content accessible to people with vision disabilities. When a person uses assistive technology such as a screen reader, the screen reader will read the onscreen text aloud 1/7
So I'm hearing there's a new exodus from The Bad Site, and a surge in membership here. New folks: This is a good time to think about what you want out of a social media site -- to replicate Xitter, or to be part of building something new, with a unique and more inclusive culture.
My thoughts for newcomers to Bluesky -- I won't even call it advice -- is that, rather than expect to recreate the experience you had on any previous platform, one should consider *why* that experience is not already occurring here.

Eric Daugherty: JUST IN: Stunning data reveals Christianity is SURGING in the United States

Bible sale: +41.6%
App downloads: +79.5%
Christian music streaming: +50%

What an amazing sight to see.
That's something we never got when I was coming up in the '80s and '90s; except for classic Disney features, it was very rare for older films to be rereleased. Now you might go to your suburban 16-screener and catch CASABLANCA or JAWS on a Sunday matinee.
Now I'm curious: Is there much of a repertory cinema scene in Japan, in your experience? S/thing I find interesting -- over the last 20 years here in the States, even as moviegoing overall has declined, the big multiplex chains have embraced special-event screenings of classics.

I would love to know the exact history of what this particular strain of bullshit evolved from. Like who pushed this idea first? People in media? Politicians?
This small 80% of the American population that lives in urban areas is completely out of touch with the 20% majority
We're very lucky to live in Rochester, NY -- there's a very healthy moviegoing culture here. Doesn't hurt that this is the headquarters of Kodak -- the George Eastman House & Museum runs specialty programs year 'round -- and there's a thriving nonprofit art-house cinema downtown.
OH DEAR GOD, NO! NOT CHALK MESSAGES! THE HORROR!
Who is the third who walks always beside you?
When I count, there are only you and I together
But when I look ahead up the white road
There is always another one walking beside you
Gliding wrapt in a brown mantle, hooded
I do not know whether a man or woman
—But who is that on the other side of you?
‘Do
‘You know nothing? Do you see nothing? Do you remember
‘Nothing?’

I remember
Those are pearls that were his eyes.
‘Are you alive, or not? Is there nothing in your head?’
I think we are in rats’ alley
Where the dead men lost their bones.

‘What is that noise?’
The wind under the door.
‘What is that noise now? What is the wind doing?’
Nothing again nothing.
Just ran across an audiobook of Jeremy Irons reading T.S. Eliot's "The Waste Land," and my heavens there are some passages here that, taken out of context, will absolutely be fodder for future Halloween mixes
And also, Carthy set the words to an adaptation of an unrelated traditional melody -- a Breton pipe tune called "Ar Ch'akouz" (The Leper). So the song as a whole is kind of a Frankenstein's monster of very old elements stitched together into something new.
When I saw that video where she "exposed" Mamdani's tweets, I thought it was a one off thing she was doing because her jacket was so comically oversized and if she didn't keep her elbows pinned in it would hang like a tent, but no -- she's a li'l T. Rex 24/7
