This is funny to me because as a kid I loved the mythological opening chapters but got bogged down in the like Elf exodus? Love all of it now but I adored the creation of the dwarves etc & the singing creation

That's never felt too crazy to me since NZ is so far away in general, what's real crazy is how Australia was settled by humans like 60 000 years before that and neither the Australians nor Polynesians knew of each other. Trade-winds and rising seas I guess comes for us all.

So what change, if any, do you reckon there was between 1800s and 1900 (IDK, fin-de-siecle is usually where Anglophone modernism is reckoned to start right?)? I intuitively feel a distinctly diff approach and language/perspective, but don't know I could substantiate that

the other thing about the high-population of most African countries and many Asian ones is ofc how *young* those populations are - so if you're in your 30/40s, many have easily doubled since you were in school, rocketing them up

Even though it was policy for most of my life-time it is still chocking that they kept 1 child policy basically intact right up until the point until every developed nation including them started freaking out about birthrates

By the accounts I've read it seems like he was just personally burnt out, not much you can do about that; it is *just* enough that it doesn't feel meager or rushed, but you're right that it was far from overstaying its welcome. Notable how little he's worked since though (maybe a bad contract tho).
