A year in reading! 📚💙

I've been meaning to do this for a while; January is a good time to start. I may not include everything, but I intend to track the books I read in 2025, professionally or for fun.

Thanks to @paulkaye.bsky.social & @georgiarybanks.bsky.social for the inspiration!
I've had it on preorder for several months!
You cannot mention Uncle Tal without telling the story of his sheepdog. It's the rules, I don't make them!

1) What's in a Prague 4 'Street' Name, day 199: Park Adolfa Borna, opened in 2020.
It's more that I'll be carrying quite a lot so it'd likely get crumpled in transit. (It's going to be my husband's Christmas present – yes, he knows, he doesn't like surprises!)
I'm actually passing through London on Monday and have built time into my schedule to go to this! I'll probably buy the book at the Glasgow event though, so I don't have to carry it!

To say people make a rational assessment of the threat environment around Covid… is just not true.

Most people refuse to talk about or read anything about Covid.

Long Covid has surpassed asthma as the most common childhood illness, and it’s rarely spoken of.

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)
You used your rip-off degree for something useful? How very dare you?! *clutches pearls*

In other news, someone misses the point about education, again... 🤦‍♀️
And even if you didn't... there's nothing wrong in knowledge for its own sake. Knowing things is good. It's great if the things you know are useful, sure, but not everything has to be useful to have value!

Global Wave of Light is an annual observance. Across the world, at 7pm local time, we may choose to light candles to commemorate the lives of our children whom we did not meet or spent too little time with.

We'll be in our Community space to hold a welcome for those who need it.

#WaveOfLight
I think of it as voting against rather than voting for... as in I cast my vote for the party most likely to beat the party I don't want to win. Though I frequently have to hold my nose when I do!

The words "guilty pleasure" don't exist with books. No guilt, just pleasure. Books are there to enjoy.

An image for #ALD25. This is Evelyn Strutt, Lady Rayleigh (www.npg.org.uk/collections/...).

She's not often numbered among "women in science", but she had a crucial role in the work attributed to her husband, because he didn't know German and she did.

We’ve got fantasy, horror, gothic, thriller… too many good books, too little time! Who wants to inherit? 📚

Hey, Prague 4! Can you get these people a street sign, or, if there is one, place it where it’s not covered by greenery (while please not getting rid of the greenery)?
