Passing thought, a week out from leaving my teaching job (before going to another teaching job): My favourite fictional teacher is Mr Farthingwell from Outnumbered. Virtually unseen, but he helps Ben feel confident enough to be the lead in his own musical version of Spartacus, which slaps. He rocks.

The Good Old Days

Tuberculosis, ricketts
Polio and smog
He kicked the wife for five days
On weekends kicked the dog
The choir boys were fiddled with
The priest put round the plate
And then those lads went off to war
And mental health was great.
My gran made broth with only bone
She couldn't afford cheese
And several of her kids died
From preventable disease
Wasn't allowed a bank account
Couldn't get a job
Tuberculosis, ricketts

Whoever managed to stitch the magnificent 9-minute final take of Homecoming together out of fragments from the 20mins+ of rather poor material presented here deserves a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Please know that I mean it when I say that this is wrong and has to change. We may not get together on everything (eg a Green government to enact their policy ideas is never, ever going to happen, and some of their new leader's wider ideas are, imho, bloody awful) but pls don't doubt my sincerity.

I sincerely hope that our government will reverse the steps they've taken that have made your life worse. Those things are indefensible.

And yet, the likely alternatives are much, much worse. As I said, it fucking sucks.

Ie, being a reactionary dickhead like James gets people's hackles up and on the defensive (ie, me). But if you engage people with genuine reasons for your views there's no reason not to be open and conciliatory. It doesn't get the clicks and replies, but it is real and honestly felt. Night & best.

I do, even though it is a course of action that makes a Reform government more likely, if you have been treated this way already I can understand why that carries a much reduced threat. And as a long time Labour voter I'm saddened and very sorry for that, as this is not the party I recognise.

No, I think you misunderstand me. I can't know what you haven't told me. I am responding to reasons, not others who are calling Starmer a cunt or comparing him with Hitler. What has been shared with me is plainly wrong. I don't know you or your struggles but I hear you and am seeking to understand.
