even the smartest folks whose takes i otherwise appreciate, who otherwise want to resist fascism themselves & encourage others to, find wearing a mask in, at least, public indoor spaces—to prevent the harms of this administration from impacting others—to be a bridge too far; it’s shameful, frankly.

yeah, i think a commitment to public health obligates you to get vaccinated and, when you are sick, do what you can to avoid spreading that to other people. the demand that one mask at all times in public spaces is, i think, unreasonable.

ICE in Chicago detained two people (that we know of) for filming them today, a cyclist and a neighborhood rapid responder. This in addition to tear gassing another neighborhood and brandishing weapons at rapid response—both things that have also already been going on for weeks.

there is also a difference btwn spaces of public accommodation like transit, healthcare, schools; versus elective spaces like eateries where ofc if one is going one is not going to mask. accommodating everyone in public spaces one can't choose to not patronize is the ask & folks shd understand why

Today happened to be our Marine Mammal Protection Act lecture in Environmental Law, so I revisited case law / key issues.
There are at least three major industries that benefit from undermining the MMPA: commercial fishing and seafood, maritime transport and shipping, and the oil and gas industries.

A mom in Houston reported her 15-year-old son with autism missing. She spent 6 days terrified, searching for him. The whole time, Houston police knew exactly where he was since they helped ICE place him in a refugee facility.

This is beyond cruel.

somehow this reminds me of a time when a friend ordered a southern comfort in a restaurant in NY state (i have NO IDEA why) and the server asked if he was from the south, and he said "yes, the global south", which was true but, i think, befuddling for the poor young man from cortland or wherever
