I told myself I was done with the laptop; my legs and back were done yesterday, my stomach is inside out and it’s 4 AM.

But I ache to place the other 2 decorative codes where they belong so that all my work presents correctly. 😩

I was re-reading it to decide what goes in that part, and was like, sure, maybe I talk the way the character does sometimes but almost no one else would irl. 🤭🥴

It’s a balance of, “Do I keep her kinda weird? Too weird? Or more relatable to other people?”

Yay!!! I made my first decorative QR code and embedded it where I want it placed!

And then, I went back and edited some dialogue in the first act of the excerpt. (The free portion which includes an entire scene.)

My QR code is placed directly before the scene the song linked through the code was intended.

Alternatively, I’ll make a version where you can listen to your screen reader with the song in the background; I just need to figure out how to embed a link that can be followed similarly if QR codes are problematic for this purpose.

Like yes, if we know something bad is on its way to a friend who may not yet know, bring it up. But they’ve endured this exact pattern already. I think most are fully informed but starving, exhausted, and any relief is welcome.

I just feel like there’s a time and a place to cast opinions on the colonial politics the situation itself, and that it’s not when those living the material reality are adjusting to the changes that shape and control every aspect of their lives. You know?

Today, I want to know when all the children are coming home to their families from the cold graves at the “schools”, for a start.

That is, the children who were not newborn infants born there, for whom there are no bodily remains.

When will all the relevant intergenerational trauma be addressed?

Calling what happened in those places "abuses" sanitizes what happened to my family and thousands of other Indigenous kids in those "schools"

The fact that protests now feature people who don’t normally have to worry about what might happen to them in an adverse encounter with security forces is a HUGE DEAL.

It means that the “real” victims don’t have to suffer alone. It means that some people care about something more than themselves

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.
