Started on the first stand of 6mm scale hoplites for my Early / Later Greek Hoplite army.

The skin and tunics were about 90 minutes of work.

They'd go faster if I gave them all the same tunic color, but — with a few exceptions — uniforms weren't a thing in ancient armies.

The thing that gets me about actors responding like this whenever they’re asking about JKR is that they always say “we need to learn to agree to disagree ^_^” as if trans people are the ones leading the campaign, when we’re just trying to live our lives while JKR posts about trans hate 24/7

With the addition of the label — which I didn't do a great job matching to the chosen paint color 🤬 — the first stand of 6mm scale Ancient Greek Javelinmen is 100% finished.

(Sadly, work and parenting has left me without the energy to start on another stand of Ancient Greeks tonight. 😮‍💨)

Well, with 2mm stuff, there's very little detail.

I try to use color to give the impression of detail.

Trying to paint all TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY SIX tiny hoplites (sixteen stands, each with four strips of four 6mm miniatures) in a single go sounds like a nightmare.

I've come to the conclusion that batch painting doesn't really work for me.

Or rather, it doesn't work for me if I try to paint too many miniatures at once, as I just get overwhelmed and shut down.

The full army is one more stand of javelimen, one stand of slingers, and SIXTEEN stands of hoplites.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing? 2? Questions I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up. Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

My kid is eight now, and knows basically nothing of American history (we live in Japan, remember?).

The other day she asked me if I knew who Columbus was.

I said yes, then proceeded to tell her what he "did," that there were people already in America, and he was really bad to them.

Kiddo came home confused at the end of last week asking why the school was celebrating Columbus Day instead of Indigenous Peoples Day and so we had a conversation about colonialism and how Columbus found jack shit and was lost AF. Kids understand way more if we just explain it to them.

Unless the person follows up with "...because I've internalized them to the point they're effortless" I always side eye anyone who says they want the mechanics to "get out of the way" of their game.

Too often the speaker means they want to ignore rules.

One thing I think gets confusing in discussions of RPG mechanics is the way people sometimes use "the mechanics get out of the way" to mean "I can ignore the mechanics"/"we didn't need to roll dice all session"
