As an officer for the APPG for Women in Defence, it was great to attend and discuss the importance of expanding opportunities for women in STEM, improving policies around domestic abuse within the Armed Forces community, and strengthening safeguarding measures for 16- and 17-year-olds in the Army.

This is the key point I think - a lot of people till view online as a whimsy or a place with no IRL impact.

But what happens online, in porn, politics, discussion etc etc. is entirely driving IRL now. And I don't think we're doing anything more than occasional patches
..it's also why online space needs regulation. Having one law for one space & another for another assumes people can keep them compartmentalised & maybe some can but a lot really, really can't; what's allowed in one will seep into the other. Just as sometimes speech will become action.

The government have brought in Awaab's Law, in memory of Awaab Ishak who tragically died in 2020 because of the high levels of mould in the house he was living in. The government vowed to fix this and by bringing in Awaab's Law are doing just that.
I feel out of step because I don't loath Starmer. I quite like him, not that I've actually spoken to him but heard him speak at events. I do speak to a lot of people who like him because he is serious and gets on with it and is not just a populist. I think anybody that becomes PM will be hated now

A number of parents have reached out to me on the difficulties they're facing in getting an Educational Psychologist and so I'm pleased the government are investing in the next generation of educational psychologists with £21m of funding.
Was that the one in the film Rob Roy?
I was quite shocked by this and the other part of her interview, which isn't included here. Your Party ideas are different to what I thought they would be, or is it just Sultana's ideas and not Corbyns and the rest of their membership? It's a job to tell at this moment in time

Thanks for letting us know, Steve.
Thats such an underated film
What about people who are adopted and only know details of one parent, or neither parent, are they going to hold up a card with shades on! My Brother & I are adopted from different parents, we are the opposite in looks.

#inktober2025 25) Inferno. The doom painting of St Thomas’ church, Salisbury. A mouth of hell and demons that even Dante would have been proud of. Decided to add colour wash to emphasise the toasty nature of the scene. Oh and thanks to @profaliceroberts.bsky.social for the kick up the 🍑 x #heritage
When I was about 20 yeals old we used go round a friend's house on a Friday night after the pub shut to see a horror movie. I remember the first time I saw Nightmare on Elm Street it frightened me to death (not literally)
Our CLP voted for Lucy Powell, with my personal membership vote I voted for Brigitte Phillipson.I thought they were both good candidates and didn't really mind which one of them won.I got fed up with people saying they were proxies for Andy Burnham or Keir Stammer, which I didn't feel they were.

To ease you into the weekend, here's a lovely film by Guy Schofield, one of two winners of this year's President’s Award.

The film is about an interactive mural commissioned by York Museums Trust for the exhibition Star Carr: Life After The Ice.

Enjoy! 😊

I've been saying to my colleagues for weeks that if the electrorate was fed up with the emcumbrant in Caerphilly, i would expect them to vote for Plaid Cymru, rather than Reform. Nobody took much notice of me though. Worryingly the Reform vote was very high, even with all the Russion business.

Outside of the women’s sector I haven’t seen much coverage of Labour’s momentous decision to end presumption of parental contact- a huge step forward for child protection and victims’ rights/
My parents and grand parents never owned a house. My father didn't buy his council house as he didn't believe in the right to buy intiative. I rented or house shared until I got married at 34 in the 1990's when no deposite mortgages came in. But it was cheaper to rent then than it is now.

Around 99,000 children across the UK are living with life-limiting conditions – such as
cancer, cystic fibrosis, brain or spinal injuries – a number that has tripled in the last 20
years.

The Labour Government will support children’s hospices with £80 million over the next three years.
Where ever the bounday is set there will be people that think they should be on the other side of it. As an aside, whenever I go to visit my inlaws in Scotland I tell proeple I'm going up North. I live in Swindon so anything above it is going Northwards 🤣

Financial penalties for environmental offences

The government plans to make it easier to fine water companies who breach environmental regulations.

The law currently requires a criminal level of proof (beyond reasonable doubt) with lengthy and expensive processes to follow.

I saw Jess Philips talking to Ian Dale at the Edinburgh Fringe. I have seen her before but this time she got really serious about Domestic violence, violence and abuse against Women and girls and she was amazing. So commited to sorting out the issues. Kemi Badenoch is so wrong about her.

11 years ago this week 2 children, Jack and Paul, were killed by their father who lured them to his house to play with trains, before setting fire to the house and barricading them in so they couldn't escape.

It happened in my home town, in a house I passed on my way to the local park.
