Just a happy-go-lucky scamp who tries to cope with the insanity and inanity of this world. Politics: far-centrist. Rejoiner. Democratic civic nationalist. Fallor, ergo sum. 2025 goal: don't suffer a rapid unscheduled OPSEC disassembly

I'm stealing this so I can use it as my pinned Bleet.

A meme for all seasons, it goes like this:
"Someone has done a thing"
Question: Are they on our side?
Yes: that's fine
No: Bastard

Oh dear. I nearly forked that right up.

Damn. I don't own a cafe, but I do have an interesting kitchen utensil collection. Oh well.

A solid, reliable honest mechanic who knows their limitations (Steve has always advised me when a specialist is needed) is well worth their money. At £50 ph I cannot grumble.

I source the parts needed (after-market as OEM cost WAY too much) and he fits them.

Main dealers bigly take the piss.
hectorthehog.bsky.social
No, Brayleys in Milton Keynes. Just another main dealer.

I rang my usual mechanic, a superb chap who only charges £50 per hour. If I source the battery he will fit it and reset the ECU. I only contacted Brayleys/Renault(Dacia) to see what they would say.

I reckon the bill would have been >£250.

So the SOS battery for the car's telematics unit has expired. Rang the dealership.
'Well sir, we will have to run a diagnostic test and that will cost £150.'
'No, I just need the battery replacing and the ECU resetting. This is under warranty.'
'But sir, the battery is a consumable.'
'Fuck off.'

I'm annoyed I didn't get the purple.

Well, at some point we are all the single point of failure!

Tommy Flowers has long been a hero of mine. He is a forgotten pioneer of computing.

It's also worth noting just how many people benefited from the Post Office apprentice schemes. You really could advance in those days even if you started at the bottom in a way that is far, far more difficult today.

Agree totally with Trish - a must read if you want to understand what really happened.

Lawks there has a lot of squawking about the Vodafone outage.

I know people are tempted to use one provider for their phones and broadband, but a single point of failure does what it says on the tin.

Did… do no one vet the title of this book?
The book by The Reverend Fergus Butler-Gallie is subtitled “confessions and communions of a young priest” and is called “Touching Cloth”

I think that's a very optimistic outlook, both on the independence front and on a potential review of the constitution. If Scotland exits The Union I suspect it would just further entrench the God and St. George mentality.

Time will tell.

I am a republican, but see no hope of that becoming a reality in my lifetime. Having a head of state who is also head of the established church is utter anathema to me.

On the other hand, the USA has the separation of church and state written into the constitution and look where that has got them.

I do have to wonder, and be perplexed, at just why the House of Commons still observes prayers before business. This _is_ a largely non-Christian country and I know that it's technically the King's parliament (head of church an' all that), but it does seem rather antiquated and, ahem, vaguely GOP.

The House of Commons sits from 2.30pm today.

The #OrderPaper is published each sitting day and lists the business of the House.
