Hard to say. They blend so well. Surviving the horror…does that count as desperation? Some of the horrors stem from a lack of money/necessity/etc, and I wish I had an example on hand, but I have work brain. #horrorwriterschat

Q4.
Do hang around for the outro, in around 10 minutes.

Which is the easier route? Or the more satisfying?

#HorrorWritersChat
Q4
In your stories: is desperation scarier than the supernatural?

Billionaires get eaten or worse. Everyone else gets to overcome the horror. #horrorwriterschat

#HorrorWritersChat Q3.

Who do you scare? As a writer, it's our chance to bite back, perhaps.
Q3
Do you write horror that scares the poor, the wealthy or everyone equally?
halfbloodlycan.bsky.social
Story dependent. My characters are all middle class millennials stuck in the downward spiral of our economy as their rent increases, and wages stay the same. It’s background noise mostly, and more prominent in a future story about a minotaur and his abusive father. #horrorwriterschat
erynmccee.bsky.social
Q2. So many of you are diving in courageously. I salute you. Don't worry, now we go more abstract.
#HorrorWritersChat
Q2
How does scarcity or deprivation shape the worlds you build in your stories?
halfbloodlycan.bsky.social
I’m Christine, I love writing supernatural, monster, cannibal, environmental, types of horror. I am rich in ideas I guess. And morals? I’m not really sure what to put here 😅 #horrorwriterschat
erynmccee.bsky.social
Oh right then here we go, if it glitches I'll wait till it's back up then fire the next.
Can't say fairer than that. Hi #HorrorWritersChat, let's talk riches. Or poverty. Moral or cash, I don't mind which.
Horror is one of the more egalitarian genres I think. More room for poor...

No links please.
Question One
Assemble, horror bods!
Tell me what kind of horror you write, and how poor are you - financially or morally? You choose....

My good friend Rebecca Campbell’s short story collection (THE OTHER SHORE, out TOMORROW) got a STARRED review from Publisher’s Weekly!

That’s a big freaking deal!!!

I’d ask you to support my friend, but more accurately support yourself by enriching your life with her words!

Some of your neighbors are sitting in their houses too scared to leave to buy food.

Check in on people and please don’t post on socials about specifics

Don’t text. Don’t email. Don’t call.

Go knock on doors and ask people if they need help.

How do any of us help? At least in the immediate, if you’re in Chicago –

Check in with your neighbors

Support small Latine businesses

Do you have children in school? Speak to parents. Many are forming groups to keep watch at schools hours before drop off / pick up

Y'all this situation is fucked. See the newest update. The hospital canceled a necessary surgery without even providing a price quote, and the so-called advocacy team is not responsive. I am looking for resources that can help. Please drop ideas in this thread and boost this. Give if you can.
tlbodine.bsky.social
Hey guys. This is important. My friend needs to pay 30% of her surgery costs up front or they're canceling the procedure. Her husband's income is affected by the government shutdown. I know we're all strapped but can I get a share? Donations would be a huge help.

This is what I mean when I say nonviolent resistance is incredibly powerful. This is a PR game. We are telling the story of the American people being oppressed and brutalized. The goal is to build popular support against the extreme unhinged regime and for ordinary decent Americans.

ICE Gestapo chuds expect our legitimate military service members to have their back as they brutalize clergy reciting Scripture, grannies laying flowers, and kids in chicken suits handing out cookies?

How do we think that's gonna play out for them?

1. Anti-trans outrage is losing its bite.

Last week, Elon Musk led a mass boycott campaign to get trans characters removed from shows on the platform.

Major conservatives joined in.

Now, we have the result: the boycott was a fizzle, and Netflix stock is up.

Classics are fine. I like deep dive folkloric ghosts, and things outside the norm because I like learning about different cultures, and unique experiences are more fun. #horrorwriterschat

Listen to the Symposium’s finest vocalist, as their tenor bends the living into unnatural angles and swivels them into the air! Tell us, what ghosts do you prefer? Of the folkloric tradition, or those invented by authors? And why?
#HorrorWritersChat
Question Three

Art by Jelle Husson, featuring a haunted monastery of many sharp-tipped towers scraping at the midnight sky. The largest is in the centre of the structure’s roof, whose walls are painted white. The monastery is located above a hilly terrain of dark stone and dark green moss. A stony, twisting road leads to the monastery.

It is always a delight to see our violinists perform! How the living bend their splintering bones as they float above us all! Tell us, our ghostly compatriots – which of us are better? Of the folkloric kind? Or invented by our shadowy creators?

Liminal is a fantastic word! I love it 🥰
halfbloodlycan.bsky.social
Whoops, didn’t read the actual question. All these still apply, and maybe add retail/doctors office when empty. I’ve worked my share of retail and love the ambiance of alone at night. A coffee shop ghost would be welcome

Liminal spaces like empty gas stations, coffee shops always, woods, and cemeteries the rare chance I can. #horrorwriterschat

Now, let us begin! Let the flutes bleat and the trumps blare, snatching all the souls of the living away! What are your favourite haunts? Mausoleums? Lavish estates? What secrets do their wraiths protect within?

Ah, the performance has begun! Behold the souls of the living darting into the flutes and trumpets! Now, as you sip your ectoplasmic wine, tell us – what are your favourite locations for ghosts? And why?
