Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right. Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases. In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing). In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

OT1H, this is clearly really bad.

There needs to be more coverage of this in the news. I have read so many stories bout this on Facebook, first hand stories of the terror of that storm, and very little coverage n media.

Spooky bird stories. Last year's Halloween comic.
A comic titled Spooky Bird Stories. In panel 1, a turkey vulture is telling stories to other vultures, and it says, "She walked toward the source of the terrible smell. She got closer and closer, and then, to her horror, she saw... No dead body." A black vulture says "No!" and a turkey vulture says "Did someone already eat it??" In panel 2, a northern cardinal is telling a story to some songbirds. It says "They peered through the windows of the house at the gory scene. Zombies had smashed through the door in the night. The homeowner was dead. But worst of all... He hadn't refilled the feeders." An eastern bluebird says "Aaah!" and an American goldfinch says "It can't be!". DirecTV devices currently show Google wallpapers when left idle. But soon, if you leave your TV inactive for 10 minutes, Glance’s AI experience will take its place. It will show a carousel of images that you can insert yourself into by scanning the QR code onscreen. It will prompt you to download the Glance mobile app to upload an image of yourself or someone else. You can also use the “craft my moment” feature to put yourself into a 30-second AI-generated video. You can further customize the image or video by talking into your remote, such as asking it to change the color or style of clothing it puts you in. Wanchoo tells The Verge that Glance doesn’t create screensavers surrounding a specific product, but instead performs a reverse image search looking for items that are similar to the ones generated by AI. “No brand is pushing a product to you,” Wanchoo says, adding that Glance has 1 trillion SKUs it can match AI-generated images with. If you decide to purchase a product, you’d have to complete the transaction on your phone.
