In line to pay in the petrol station yesterday a woman was talking to her friend and said “I swear to god I need a Valium and a box of chocolate ” and now this morning my 3 year old who overheard this convo, is asking for “a wee Valium and chocolate please.” It’s like living with a devious parrot

(You have no idea how grumpy I am about the pressure on employability rates. (1) That's YOUR JOB, STARMER. Unis can't solve the economy. (2) SORT OUT THE CLASS SYSTEM IN THIS COUNTRY, STARMER. It's incentivising unis to pick privileged A-Level students who have the networks to for quick job access)

So, all that pressure for universities to give government stupidly high employment rate 18 months out of graduation, does that mean we all have to train posh nannies?

That's how much of the current logic in chasing metrics goes in UKHE these days...

For some reason my best friends phone number when we were is secondary school is hot iron branded onto my brain. Drs could use it to establish if I was even vaguely oriented if they asked me to recite it. How useless- I don’t even know my car reg and I’ve had it 10 yrs

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I had the real pleasure of having lunch with Miriam Margolyes today, and as we left the restaurant, an old man started playing Hava Nagila loudly on his phone and calling Miriam a “self hating Jew!” - presumably for her stance on Palestine. It was upsetting but she brushed it off, undeterred

Ian Watkins’ ex girlfriend reports him multiple times to the police for what he was doing and they treated her as if she was hysterical in every sense of the word. Misogyny is dangerously and deadly, it played a huge role in those poor children’s torment. Hope he went roaring

Seeing Ms. Rachel say exactly what needs to be said to Obama is so damn refreshing

Dear President Obama,
I saw in your statement you said "Israeli families" & "the people of Gaza."
Palestinians have families, too.
This kind of language contributes to dehumanization. Dehumanization is part of what caused so many to stay silent as 20,000 children were killed in this genocide.
I've sat with wonderful Palestinian families from Gaza. They look at their children just like we look at ours - with all the love & hope in the world.
