This book wasn't really my learning a lot of new facts, it wasn't as much of a discussion on what we all learned
But El Akkad says everything I'm thinking but with better words and with personal experience
And I just really wanted people to read this book

it took me years, but being able to say even the palest, slightest criticism, like "I think the wars killed a lot of people who did nothing wrong" got turned into somehow you were allowing the thousands dead in the towers to be forgotten

I'm not doubting his sincerity in describing the violence of October 7, not at all
I just almost wish he didn't have to
That an Egyptian-born immigrant, a journalist, living and writing in the United States, doesn't have to "condemn Hamas"

The first is "food aid-related deaths" for shooting starving Gazans
The second is "as with many events in the war between Israel and Hamas, the facts are destined to remain fiercely contested"
