Should probably do an "introductory" thread:

I work as a software developer, now for a company in London, but I live in a village in Fife, Scotland. Technically I've been on BlueSky for a bit over a year already but have only fully committed to the move since the US elected Trump for a second time.

The president of the United States thinks asylum-seekers come from mental asylums.

He says it in almost every interview where the topic of migration comes up.

How is this not 25th Amendment territory? How is he not an embarrassment to this entire country?

Teen Vogue rising after the 2016 election and dying after the 2024 election doesn't even feel like a metaphor as much as a microcosm of what is happening all over places that were once strong areas of resistance.

It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

I wonder what finally made Condé Nast bring Teen Vogue to heel. 😞
NEW 🚨 @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social made time to catch up with @teenvogue.com in advance of Tuesday's elections 🗳️

we talked about the campaign's base of energized young people, and why politics isn't just about the ballot box — it's about "a sense of belonging in the city that you call home."
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Britain is not in the grip of mass violence.

The Cambridgeshire train stabbings were horrific - and incredibly rare.

Your odds of being attacked by a stranger are much lower than they were.

Here's the facts! 👇

Yeah this is why.

Thoroughly justified criticism is being focused on Sheffield Hallam University here, but I think their insurers deserve to be named and shamed too, since it was their decision to remove cover which made the university's financial position untenable. They should not evade being held to account.

"Prime Minister comments on X" about it, today.

all of our politicians are mainlining the sewer into their veins
the train stabbings are obviously awful but "MP posted on X in response" really stands out these days

Why does so much of the media pursue a 'Scotland is shit' reporting strategy? Because they support the Union and will do all they can to undermine your confidence in Scotland's ability to control its own destiny. It's a kind of bullying. Do you want to stay in a relationship with a bully?

I wish someone would ask Nigel Farage still supports proportional representation, now Reform are leading in the polls.

My guess is the answer is now "No." Though in a lot more words.

it's rather telling how people react to the awful stabbing incident on the LNER train

your usual, braindead suspects are going all-in on racism

everyone else (including myself) is at awe of the professionalism and conduct of the train staff and signallers
