This is the last piece of art I completed before breaking my arm in June. I wanted to see if I can work in a somewhat conventional Webtoon style. Still need some practice, which I'll get back to someday... The character is Onawa from GearHead RPG. Watercolor on watercolor paper.

Absolutely epic thread. He was a former head teacher of the secondary school I went to. Just an old picture on a wall with the other former heads. No post-nominals. No fuss made. I expect now all this is known the school would make a bigger deal of him. It's the kind of school that would.

It’s the 111th anniversary today of the birth of Harry Rée, who was a teacher and conscientious objector when the Second World War broke out, and by the time it ended, when he was 31, had invented ‘blackmail sabotage’ and got a DSO, an OBE, a Croix de Guerre, and a Medaille de la Resistance
b/w photo of a man in socks and sandals, jacket, short and jumper, in front of a wall with a bike leaning on it, and with a pipe in his mouth. If you wanted one image to sum up the word ‘nonchalant’, this would be it

You gently run your hand through the rack. You can feel it—pure cotton, rich wool, Irish linen. The plump buttonholes are handsewn; the buttons attached with a firm shank. You flip the price tag over. It's affordable

You buy the jacket and go home, which is only 15 mins away. Your apt is $600/month

Now, more than ever, you have to be a weird little pervert who makes art of questionable quality. You need to be driven crazy by the flesh. Because, as we all learned from Cronenberg's The Fly, the computers are not made crazy by the flesh. They can't do it like us.

My controvertial opinion is that in addition to lightfastness and opacity, watercolors should have an indicator of how well they'll show up on a cheapass scanner. Would make my life easier.

Link to the book, which also covers the 1886 Watercolor Controversy (surprise, surprise, it was about lightfastness)

This pamphlet admits some colors are fugitive but argues were used in mixes and not exposed to light, so the issue is minimal.

Ever think about how so many tech people believed in the Singularity, when the progress of computers + AI would become a self-reinforcing loop, while here in the real world many of Silicon Valley's problems are caused by the fact that tech innovation has slowed to a crawl?

I just printed a picture of it on A3 paper, laminated it to make it shiny, and it worked surprisingly well. Had people coming up to see if I had a giant cassette in there.

Repost with your favorite Halloween costume.

I am Soundwave, if that's not obvious. Tried to convince my son to go as Rumble but he had his heart set on Bumblebee.
I am wearing a Soundwave costume, my son wearing a Bay-movies Bumblebee costume, and my wife has a pumpkin hairband. For whatever reason my son is also doing ironic Vulcan salute.

I finally got around to mounting the trophies from my last visit to Canada.
Eight different root beer bottle caps mounted on a piece of blue matte board and framed. They are Barq's, Frostie, Stewards, The Pop Shoppe, A&W, Jones, Dad's (Diet), and Virgil's. This is all that I could find in Deer Lake and Corner Brook.
