A beautiful film about the power of art, and the joyful struggle of making it, even in dark times. One of Deneuve's best performances. One of Truffaut's best films.

At the 12 second mark, that camera operator called an audible and just said "fuck it, the lane is clear, no tripping hazards, I'm winning a Sports Emmy for cinematography right now"

Define “Perfect Ending”?
Bravo, this is key, not widely understood, and very well said.
A pet theory about the great Montgomery Clift #BOTD:

Many trace the dawn of modern screen acting to Brando’s debut in The Men (1950). But I’d argue Clift got there first in Hawks’ Red River (1948), the earliest truly modern, psychologically grounded performance audiences had ever seen.
This was the edition I first read as a kid too. Brings back vivid memories, staring at this cover and reading the book, I was shocked at the sheer power of imagination.

Rest in peace, Drew Struzan. His movie posters are much more than marketing. They're some of the finest pop art you'll ever see. Look at this masterpiece:

RIP to the great Diane Keaton.
Reds for sure and might add the one two punch of Annie Hall and Interiors as an illustration of her colossal range. RIP.

Just discovering this very cool thread. I remain fascinated by Babylon. One of those rare movies that is somehow both a mess and kind of a masterpiece. (Similar to how I feel about Heaven's Gate).
