(is what i’m taking away from this.)
because no one wanted to make the damn things in the first place
Yeah that one blew my mind tbh, why does one (known shitty) company get to dictate what everyone else does rather than like, adopting a standard as a cooperative industry like "how big is a gas nozzle vs a diesel nozzle" for example
You can buy one! But yes, it’s a mess.
Yeah, I have no desire to give Musk any money. Luckily, Ionna’s been pretty consistent with its rollout.
you want to *beat* tesla by letting them lead the conversation? by letting him control the tech and standard?

what are we fucking doing?

Shit like this is why i feel like so many auto manufacturers never really wanted to make EVs.
it really just felt like Musk told everyone to jump and everyone else said “how high?”

and it doesn’t even seem like it worked!
the U.S. government fucked up by not forcing Tesla to use CCS. The EU and China had the right idea by making everyone use the same port.
I get it, but Jim Farley decided for the industry in February 2023. Adapter Hell will be around for awhile. In the meantime, I hope more companies don't follow CLA/Leaf EV footsteps and make life more complicated....
which is why i constantly feel like this country is completely unserious about EVs.

Not going to lie, I’m not convinced the tesla-style NACS port is as big of a game changer as we think it is.

Native access to the supercharger network is nice, I guess, but I don’t know if real EV drivers will use it outside of one-off roadtrips.

Tesla’s NACS Plug Should've Fixed EV Charging. Here’s What We Got Instead
EVs with Tesla-style ports are all the rage. But access to the Supercharger network didn’t really move the needle for me.

? You asked which models have electronic door releases and i gave you a few examples.
i don’t think it would fit
Lexus NX and RX. Lucid Air and Gravity. Any Rivian. BMW i7, iX, i5.

these are ones i can name off the top of my head
Mustang Mach E has strange button doors but apart from Tesla don’t know any other odd button doors?
I hate those door handles so much. Styled to look like a regular door handle, but it's electronic.
One of the things I dislike about hidden door handles that don't pop out automatically though, is how ergonomically awkward they are to use. I have always wondered if people with hand and dexterity issues have issues using them, because they do not feel natural.
The Ioniq 5 / EV6 all have traditional levers, but different trim levels have versions that may or may not electronically "pop out" on their own, FWIW
yes. Also a lot of EVs have frameless doors, too.
Yep! I like Hyundai's solution a lot, tbh. It feels robust and easy to fix, without sacrificing aero or style
The Xiaomi YU7 and SU7 may look like they have mechanical door handles, but they're actually buttons. (I've used them.)
you can literally feel the difference and delay. The handle in a Kia or Hyundai EV is literally pulling a lever/cord. Pressing a button in a Tesla (or many other modern EV brand) doesn't feel the same.
the Corvette’s door handle (as is any tesla) is akin to an electronic trunk release

an ioniq 5 or EV6 may have the exterior handle hidden, but the door handle itself is connected to a traditional release and lever
some of yall are conflating hidden door handles and electronic door handles

the Corvette has had electronic door handles since 2006.

The Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6 may have hidden door handles, but they aren’t always electronic
not if they keep blowing up engines
i used to love recommending these to drivers who are on a budget and want a reliable car

but rust is starting to take these off the roads ☹️
what are we gonna do about it, tho
