See this is why polling local candidates nationally is bad

For one thing, there is no "like him", not really

But also, he's running locally. If he ran nationally, he'd run differently and people would be exposed to him differently - we literally have no idea how he would poll in that situation

I recently heard someone describe journalism in terms of an analogy to making a sweater. What you are describing is the person who gathers the wool. A journalist is the person who knits the sweater.

If they're just bringing you a bag of wool, they didn't do their job

They're not separate things - you don't have to weigh the relative moral horror because it's all the same horror. If you dampen your visceral reaction because you're always comparing it to worse horrors, you end up just dulling your sensitivity to the horror
