Retired union rep, at home in Oregon, which I love. I travel when I can afford it, interests in human origins, photography, fly fishing and restoring our US public lands. Blazer fan, because it's still ok to have fun.

WHO COULD HAVE PREDICTED THIS

Months before catastrophic floods swept through an Alaska Native village on Sunday, the Trump administration canceled a $20 million grant meant to protect the community from extreme flooding. At the time, the EPA administrator said he was eliminating "wasteful DEI and Environmental Justice grants."
E.P.A. Canceled $20 Million Flood Protection Grant to Alaska, Parts of Which Just Flooded
The remote village of Kipnuk planned to use the money to protect against flooding. On Sunday, it was inundated.

To me the calculus is simple. People should nominate whoever has the best chance of beating Collins rn. Age or anything else be damned. The house is currently on fire, we can worry about four years from now. If it's Mills, all she has to do is show up and vote.

Once again I apologize on behalf of New York that Lee Zeldin has to be inflicted on the rest of the country.

And don't listen to people who say October 18th isn't "enough" for some theoretical reason. It's a start, midterms or no midterms this administration is going to be around for three more years. It's a process.

Given the DHS talk of "remigration" and private chats revealing the overtly Nazi stances of the NY Young Republicans, it would be really good for those opposed to show up October 18 then continue to collaborate in their communities, because all this will get worse and worse until we act to stop it.

The whining about Janet Mills jumping into the Maine Senate race is pretty hard to take. It's fine and healthy for our candidates to run in contested primaries. It's dangerous to simply nominate people by acclamation based on internet vibes. Mills isn't even bad, she's just extremely old.

Whether it's young Democrats expressing their support for DEI or young Republicans saying "I love Hitler,' both sides have expressed controversial opinions.

Dress up in costumes. Draw attention. Make it absurd for them to crack down on you, and then be ready to refuse to cooperate if they do crackdown on you.

It also serves other purposes, like building internal solidarity and identity but a core point of protest is to draw attention. Though there is always a question of what is understood from that attention

Also, given that Harris was pro-ceasefire, why would they have refused to vote for her if that's all they wanted?

Apparently, they don’t hand out a Nobel Peace Prize to those who negotiated a ceasefire they had sabotaged a year ago just to get elected.
