A weightless affair, I do think that Murder By Decree viewing has pissed all over this somewhat. As default Holmes as you can get, all edges sanded off, not very interesting compared to Plummer's later faceoff against the Ripper.
I think Murder By Decree has fair ruined it for me, the killer reveal is very "oh, okay, whatever" and the conclusion is super flippant, like "HA HA, ONTO THE NEXT CASE, WHEEEE, NOTHING MATTERS"
I will say, the Batman themed poster is entirely appropriate for it, this is VERY broad strokes Sherlock. Not bad mind!
SHUT.
THE FUCK.
UP.

(I'm sorry, I really hate cockney singalongs and this has two too many.)
A very safe Holmes and Watson pairing, Neville's already busted out all the Holmsian chestnuts in his first scene, Houston appropriately "BY JOVE, AMAZING"

I think I prefer the Murder By Decree pairing honestly, but this is fine "default" Holmes.
First victim getting Victorian Jason Vorhees'd with that knife through the neck.
#NowWatching A Study in Terror (1965)

Been an age since I've seen this, saw Murder By Decree last year as part of #SundayCinema a while back and I've had a hankering for more Holmes v. Jack, so away we go!
Them pounding out music in a pretty small place like the Waterfront in Norwich was like sitting next to a jet engine in a cupboard and became unbelievably psychedelic towards the end of the setlist.
Just spent an hour trying and failing to find my head in the crowd at a gig from 12 years ago and was reminded how, the moment I heard it live, this became my favourite Killing Joke song. The fucking THUMP

It has been long enough that I don't quite remember how it all plays out, I think well over a couple of decades now. Oddly I tend to get it a bit jumbled in my head with Villain, just 'cos McShane, but same realm. Grim n' British.
Oh god, I want to rewatch this one again. Mileage may vary depending on just how much you can take of Reed's character and his driving motivation (PRETTY EVIL) but it makes for a lot of tension.
Watched SITTING TARGET (1972). Super stylish and violent crime thriller starring Oliver Reed and Ian McShane as very bad men who escape prison with a vendetta in mind. To say more would spoil it, I’ll just say last 20 minutes is a whole new movie unto itself.

just watched Escape from L.A. and it kicks ass and also it's so funny that Snake plays basketball, surfs, and rides a glider in the movie like he's fucking Shadow the Hedgehog or something
8 out of 10, fairly gnarly.
#SundayCinema announcement!

Let's fire up this Halloween with a bit of cult 80s b-movie horror comedy! Cute little aliens! Grody slugs! Tom Atkins staggering about in an alcoholic haze! Rusty from European Vacation!

That's right, it's Night of the Creeps (1986) and it's great!

STRYPER RULES
When I say Silent Hill, I do of course mean the games, not the film. Sound design in those is PURE, distilled, pants full of shit "what the fuck is that weird banging" terror.

Tamblyn says what we're all thinking.

A class act that one, a masterpiece of sound design, I think Raimi heads and Silent Hill nutters (I am both) should flock to this as both owe it a huge debt.

Excellent choice @vickyblue21.bsky.social ME UP NEXT WEEK FOR MORE CREEPS! YAY!

It's not hard to see the influence of this on Raimi's Evil Dead films in the use of sound design, odd angles, etc. He of course pushed it to hard extremes.

The subtle strangeness of the door, no creepy music, just reactions, the creaking.
