As a Hawkeye Alum I can tell you that train would be heavily used.

There’s a regional rail pilot schedule on the Rock Island, as well as a new entrance at Racine.
There’s also removing the South Shore and Metra non-compete clause.

Everyone’s talking about Illinois’ big transit bill, but here’s what you might’ve missed: it also eliminates parking mandates near high-frequency transit stops statewide! ✨🥳

What counts as high-frequency transit?
🚇 Within 1/2 mile of rail stations and bus hubs
🚍 Within 1/8 mile of bus corridors

Has the 3rd Ward lost it???

The pause just creates dangerous confusion over where lanes are (with concrete already being poured) and blocks access to Chinatown and Pilsen to appease a handful of Sloopers.

While this corridor has had bike lanes for more than 15 years, CDOT did not anticipate the level of disruption the installation of protected bike lanes would cause. Alderman Dowell's office has heard the concerns raised by community members, and the office has been actively engaging with CDOT to reassess the design and placement of the protected bike lane to ensure the safety and accessibility of all people who use 18th St. CDOT and 3rd Ward staff are actively monitoring the project through construction and during the pause to assess safety and mobility concerns related to the street reconfiguration
At this time, the project has been paused while the 3rd Ward Office continues conversations with DOT regarding the permanent installation. In the interim, crews will be marking the pavement and installing signage as required for safety, and complying with existing contracts.
We deeply appreciate your patience and advocacy. Our goal remains to support a safe, accessible neighborhood for all residents. The 3rd Ward Public Service Office will provide an update on the project as soon as additional information is available.

Passengers shouldn’t have to worry about “non-compete clauses” when knowing what train to take, they should just be able to hop on a train headed to their destination

Rereading the transit bill language, saw a provision I don’t think has been discussed much. It forces Metra to ditch its noncompete agreement with NICTD, meaning you could take South Shore trains for trips that start and end in Chicago. I suspect Rep. Buckner added it. @starlinechicago.bsky.social
