Just a progressive scientist who actually cares more about people than scoring points. What's so wrong with being compassionate and caring? It's a lie that we have to trample our neighbors in order to succeed.

Why would anybody think she'd be beloved by the left? Basically the only thing I know about her is that she's been involved with multiple cases of spreading misinformation in furtherance of increasing the suffering of vulnerable communities.

Isn't that MAGA porn?

Said this before, but at a church mtg my BFF was at (topic: protect trans kids) they were deciding on public actions. Two white dudes (25-35) were worried about violent reactions by cops. Oldest white woman there asked "Who here has been tear gassed?" and every woman over 50 raised her hand.

I'm not sure they're intentionally lying.

It makes sense to them for people to crave cruelty and not care about decency, but nobody in their right mind could actually believe in crazy things like justice, liberty, and compassion, so of course they'd have to be paid off.

Deplorables, ugh.

Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

Duffy:

"These paid agitators are a huge problem. No matter how hard we look, there's no indication of who is paying them, or that they're even being paid!

Who is powerful enough to carry out such a sophisticated scheme to make these agents look exactly like real protesters? I'm scared."

Haha, that's telling. Have a nice day.

Whatever dude, if the algorithms are pushing content in a way that violates the platform's own rules, users have been deceived by accepting the terms and having an expectation that the rules would be enforced.
filipvanevski.bsky.social
The bill punishes the platform's own conduct (its algorithm) rather than treating it as a publisher of user content.

The government already regulates other industries like broadcast media.

I'm sure it'll be challenged and hashed out in the courts, let the public see what's going on.

If you have an issue with unintended consequences from following the law or the the platform's own rules then change the laws or the rules.

Are these tech CEOs brilliant visionaries or impotent babies that can't be expected to act responsibly because it's just too hard?
filipvanevski.bsky.social
Thanks for the tip, already did.

Sorry for not being bothered by holding tech billionaires accountable to the law and their own rules, I think they'll be ok.
filipvanevski.bsky.social
Kinda twisted take.

The violations this bill targets are already prohibited, both by existing laws and by the platforms' own rules.

Are the platforms own rules First Amendment violations?

Making it more likely that the rules will be enforced is a problem how, exactly?

These guys, ugh.

Finally, FFS! This was beautiful.

It's really vile to be told, "We don't want to abandon trans kids to these sick fucks, but they're dragging us down and democracy is more important."

This is a pro-trans message, but really it's a pro-human message.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Trump on Ukraine: "They'd like to have Tomahawks. We talked about that. We'll see. I might have to speak to Russia, to be honest with you, about Tomahawks. Do they want to have Tomahawks going in their direction? I don't think so."

The unstated purpose of AI is to allow capital to acquire skill while taking away the ability of those with skills to acquire capital.

“The investment firm Narya Capital—which Vance launched in 2020 with backing from Peter Thiel—was a vehicle for [AcreTrader] investments & a key backer in early funding rounds of the farmland startup…Vance is still an investor in the firm.” — Civil Eats

I think it's more likely a deregulation issue.

Certain highly profitable business practices have been, in their view, needlessly restricted, stifling their ability to maximize profits, and requiring complicated workarounds.

Their solution is to recreate the conditions for slavery.

For the most part, yes, but I suspect this is not an entirely unrealistic prediction.

So she took humor meant to help process horror, and used it as fuel for even more horror.

Now that's classy.

I don't know if it's necessarily an admission, but it's highly suggestive.

Even worse is when you respond with, "if that's true, bring a case against our guy, if he's guilty he should be held accountable," and they flip out like, "don't try to be clever, i'm not falling for your tricks."

Sigh.
