Why would anybody think she'd be beloved by the left? Basically the only thing I know about her is that she's been involved with multiple cases of spreading misinformation in furtherance of increasing the suffering of vulnerable communities.

Said this before, but at a church mtg my BFF was at (topic: protect trans kids) they were deciding on public actions. Two white dudes (25-35) were worried about violent reactions by cops. Oldest white woman there asked "Who here has been tear gassed?" and every woman over 50 raised her hand.

I'm not sure they're intentionally lying.

It makes sense to them for people to crave cruelty and not care about decency, but nobody in their right mind could actually believe in crazy things like justice, liberty, and compassion, so of course they'd have to be paid off.

Speaker Mike Johnson recently claimed, 'We are not responsible for the sins of our ancestors. We are responsible for our own choices and our own character. This idea of inherited guilt is toxic, and it is profoundly un-American.'

It’s unclear who exactly is pushing such an idea of inherited guilt. Certainly he can’t be referring to the teaching of slavery, and the effects it has had on society. Why would anybody feel guilty that wasn’t responsible? If the assertion is that a student might interpret this negatively, we merely have to take Johnson’s own word that “we are responsible for our own choices and our own character.”

Further, he claims there is systemic anti-Christian bias and supports government intervention to correct this, so he cannot take issue with acknowledging and addressing the ongoing effects of historical injustices on marginalized communities. That Johnson refutes such systemic injustices exist today makes it clear he understands the present institutions are not asking for people to be held accountable for past misdeeds, but to address current injustice. That he would purposefully lie to the American people about this is deeply disturbing.

In fact, many followers of Johnson's religion, Christianity, can interpret biblical teachings as promoting the very concept of inherited guilt that Johnson claims to be against. For example, in Deuteronomy 5:9-10, it is written, 'For I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.' This passage suggests that the sins of our ancestors can have consequences for future generations. He can argue until he’s blue in the face that there is a benign interpretation, but he cannot deny that a person reading such a passage would be highly likely to interpret this to mean that one can be punished for the sins of his ancestors.

Whatever dude, if the algorithms are pushing content in a way that violates the platform's own rules, users have been deceived by accepting the terms and having an expectation that the rules would be enforced.

The bill punishes the platform's own conduct (its algorithm) rather than treating it as a publisher of user content.

The government already regulates other industries like broadcast media.

I'm sure it'll be challenged and hashed out in the courts, let the public see what's going on.

The violations this bill targets are already prohibited, both by existing laws and by the platforms' own rules.

Are the platforms own rules First Amendment violations?

Making it more likely that the rules will be enforced is a problem how, exactly?

I think it's more likely a deregulation issue.

Certain highly profitable business practices have been, in their view, needlessly restricted, stifling their ability to maximize profits, and requiring complicated workarounds.

Their solution is to recreate the conditions for slavery.

I don't know if it's necessarily an admission, but it's highly suggestive.

Even worse is when you respond with, "if that's true, bring a case against our guy, if he's guilty he should be held accountable," and they flip out like, "don't try to be clever, i'm not falling for your tricks."
