Hello bsky!

I’m on here primarily for news, solidarity, and commentary on how to survive COVID, climate catastrophe, and christo-fascism.
“You’ll never believe this simple trick that doctors refuse to tell you”
I presume you mean gigantic banks outsourcing their fraud to other entities? Because that’s not even a trend.

The obvious exception being Wells Fargo who keep their fraud in house.

🧵Lemons

My dad owned a lemon
It wouldn’t go far
It was old, it was rusty
A piece of shit car
He’d worked hard to buy it
He drove it with pride
As a kid it was always
My favorite ride (1/6)
As a child I ate government cheese and free school lunches. I then went on to uni thanks largely to Pell grants.

I now (HAPPILY) pay taxes on an income that would not have been possible without that support.

Taking care of your citizens is good actually.
Just thinking: I am a double-boarded physician-scientist at @uclahealth.org, but I grew up in poverty. Gov't provided the welfare & foodstamps that aided my refugee family. Gov't grants subsidized my education.

I am only where I am today bc of the #America that was. And it makes me want to cry.
What is your opinion of the DuckDuckGo browser?
OK, I can see that point. But also consider what these sound like:
"Consider wearing a seatbelt in a moving car"
"Consider wearing a condom when having sex with a new partner"
"Consider wearing sunscreen on exposed skin"

The word "consider" diminishes the vital importance.

I'm with Kim.
Trump: That’s OK. I’m never going to pay you anyway.
Here’s the thing. Let’s say we have elections next year and Dems run the table. And then they do the same in 2028.

They. Will. Never. Undo. The. Damage.

They will mewl like a tiny kitten that what we must focus on now is unity. They will beseech the GOP on how to better serve them.

Simple as.
“General Strike starts on Monday”
In keeping with his guiding philosophy of screwing everyone else over, of course he’s not going to pay the contractors. So, he’ll also be leaving behind lawsuits.
All of the contractors who are going to bid on this job realize they will never be paid, right? Right?
Holy shit! This looks even worse than yesterday. They’re not trying to save any part of the East Wing.

listen. you can have ‘we need to do something about men’s feelings of isolation!’ or you can have ‘men are biologically required to do friendship by calling each other racial slurs and joking about raping women.’ you can’t have both. at some point the call can only be coming from inside the house
Cosigned.

We have a straightforward solution right in front of us. Clean the air. It’s not even that hard.

I’d include something about PM 2.5, but yeah super straightforward.

And the attendant benefits of clean air for our health will absolutely amaze us.
I think jamelle’s “rational assessment” is no more rigorous than: Biden made a joke about “don’t tell them I wasn’t wearing it” on national TV, so now it’s all over.
(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

She's a U.S. sponsored opposition candidate and the daughter of a steel oligarch. Machado champions the privatization of Venezuela's oil, power, and steel industries.
New York Times:

“Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado awarded Nobel Peace Prize for “her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela & for her struggle to achieve a just & peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

@npr.org read the room. This was an irresponsible headline.

And I'm sure some doofus on your staff is chortling to themselves, "well, you're talking about it, aren't you?" Yes, we are talking about how bad you are doing your job.

"The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year... In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI."

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.
