And much to my surprise, another Silent Hill is good at combat. A simplified Dark souls, but really good and really tight.

You know, the next mainline SH game should also double as Bloodborne 2 (Silent Hill ends up making Victorian England cleaner and more sanitary).

The gameplay changes make the experience different enough from the original that it feels like it's own thing. We know the story, but not what's around the next corner, so it kept things interesting.
I wasn’t going to play Silent Hill 2 Remake, b/c how could it compete with a game that fundamentally changed my life? (And I was right on that).

But! B/c of the camera change & a few other factors, SH2R forges its own identity. And it a pretty good identity!

Only 6 hrs in. Still time to blow it.
First volume down. Fifteen to go.

Most significant systematic theology since the Summa.
Most depictions of abuse reveal that the creator doesn’t know about abuse*. Thankfully, Mouthwashing is not in that category.

*a good number of exceptions tho. Some dispense with realism in order to capture how it feels existing in those circumstances. I’m good with that approach.
The thing I love the most about Mouthwashing is that it's very trendy and popular to depict monstrous abusers as smirking, sadistic freaks. By contrast, it says no actually, they're often insecure, scared, bewildered morons protecting their paper thin egos from any punctures.

I did not read through thousands of Byron's letters to be told that a letter could cancel someone straight off the curriculum.
Da fuck do I have a Nancy Pelosi meme…

Oh yeah that makes sense.

A most wonderful horror mail. (I don’t remember what I included in the last one and too lazy to look).

Me and my friend (The incredibly talented writer Perry Ruhland) collaborated by having me draw a ghost, and then he wrote a wonderful piece of scary micro-fiction for it. Check it out here, and read some of his other work!

What follows is “Mouth”, a ghost story written by myself, after artwork by the great Trevor Henderson (trevorhenderson.com). We’ve been trying to do something together for ages, a…

I am so tired of centrists acting like the Left are just recalcitrant centrists who can be brought to heel.
In the course of researching the new WIP, I discovered that one of Ed Lee’s books has a porn adaptation.

My first reaction to this least surprising fact: no way in hell a real woman can breast as boobily as his characters.

There's dark in a way that works and adds to the gameplay experience, and then there's "I can't see what the fuck I'm doing" dark, and that's just frustrating.
My biggest gameplay gripe is that the gun handling and the enemies feel like they're from two different games. Just didn't feel right.
Wrt to it being too dark—I worship at the altar of FATAL FRAME, a franchise that didn’t know what lighting was for the first 3 installments.
Like the environments are too cluttered, they’re too small for all the dodging they want, everything moves to fast (coming from a guy who thinks having a parry or block means a game is too slow), it’s too dark to see anything, and the guns aren’t satisfying to use. It’s just awful.
Playing ALAN WAKE II since it was free on the PSN. So far, it’s one of the most beautiful games I’ve played, fantastically written, but everything else about it is so *deeply* annoying. Truly baffled how Silent Hill gets shit for its combat when AWII is worse than AWI.

Oh, loved the mind parlance
Last night, @jackguignol.bsky.social ran a game of @spookhouse.bsky.social’s Vampryvania, a TTRPG that simulates playing the og Castlevanias.

It was a blast! Genuinely captured the spirit and game feel of Symphony of the Night. If you get the chance, I highly recommend giving it a spin!
Hans Urs Von Balthasar says ‘screw cozy fic.’

Sadly, more so than its recent ascendancy, Christians have to be constantly reminded of this. (And Christian media is the ur cozy media).
Damn dude. I might have to hand over the wax gavel of the presidency over to you!

The added pathos of 'maybe pregnant' gives just enough plot armor that her final run is extra horrifying. She did good in this one!
