The relevant code for the grid, hidden behind a painting of Alyx’s mother, was lodged firmly in his memory. He typed it into the metallic keypad at once, and he swallowed the lump in his throat. After too, too long for his comfort, the receiver clicked.
“Go,” said the nondescript voice on the other end.
“The blue hound has LL’s scent,” Alyx said quietly. “And he has a pack of three with him.”
“Very well.”
The receiver clicked, and the signal vanished. And it was done. Alyx’s shoulders felt heavy, so he took a seat on the coach and laid his head back to look up at the ceiling. He didn’t sleep that night. And he didn’t think on Sakir, the alien lord Marcus nor the women Rune and Avalynne. With all his might, he did not think on them.

For all that my books are chonky epics, the space fights are always over so fast! There's only a couple of times in Lonely Ship where there's a back and forth, usually around the trilogy climax.

Guess I like my space fights to be quick. Gives us more time for the juicy stuff in the ship corridors 🤫
