I could sit here and do this for hours.

Not bad for a bit of acoustic pixel art!

I went to collect my meds and my hip was giving me SO MUCH more aggro than usual and I couldn't work it out.

Then I realised - I broke out my big fuckoff boots for autumn and when I do that I need to make my stick longer!
POV sitting on a bench with a purple and teal crutch leaning next to me. My foot is clad in a large black boot with pink and blue accents. A side view of the boot showing it has about a 4cm platform sole, making me that much taller when I wear them.

Also pictured is the first-pancake ring.

I did the first one with an 8mm width but turning it right-side out turned out to be impossible. So the rest are being done with a 16mm width and a hell of a lot of struggling to turn them right-side-out.

Today I've been trying to make the red rings that go at the top of the chevron.

I've watched all 4 episodes of Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle, just under 3 hours of media, and I've managed to get the edges of two of the rings sewn and those two pieces turned right-side-out ready to border stitch.
Photo of two red tubes of fabric about 100mm long and 14mm wide. Each has a line of pink thread losely tacking it so that it can be ironed flat. Next to it is one of the chevrons for scale and another tube that is still inside out because it was sewn for a width of 8mm and was too narrow to be turned right-side out.
evergemma.bsky.social
That just the border stitch on 5 of 8 little chevrons.

The chevrons as a whole involved making a test 1 that was too short, making the new pattern piece, marking 16 of them out out on fabric, sewing them together into 8 pieces (the blue line) and then turning them right side out to sew the borders.

Hell, *I* even struggle to know how long it takes sometimes because when I'm in the hyperfocus zone time loses all meaning.

The best way I've found to measure it is using media.

For example, doing the green line of sewing for 5 of these chevrons took an entire movie of 2hrs 30mins.
The same photo as before but drawn on. There's a narrow blue line around the very outside of the chevron and a thicker green line of running stitch about 5mm inside the seam that's lined in blue. The blue line is about 150mm and the green line as a whole is about 120mm.

Something I want to clarify is that I sew all this by hand. And that's my choice - I prefer it and I'm really no good with a sewing machine.

But I'm not sure if people understand how time-consuming hand sewing is.

I'm getting there with all the gubbins for the leg-holders though!
A bunch of bits of red fabric, mostly rectangles and some slightly angled pieces piled messily on my laptop keyboard. At one side is a brown suede tube with a couple of the pieces pinned to it. Two of the leg holders on wavewalker. There are red bits round the leg with square bits top and bottom, then above that is a chevron shaped red bit and something that looks like hydraulics.

I fully couldn't be trusted with the squishy display. I'd just endlessly poke it.

Sorry. I figured it was better to let you know but it sucks to have a musician you like spoiled like that.

I can remember the number of my childhood best friend who I haven't seen or spoken to in over 20 years, and the call-in number for the Live and Kicking TV show.

Having a jingle for your number REALLY worked.

They even all wore the same SOCKS that they'd worn when they filmed the first half.
evergemma.bsky.social
They made the first half as a meme and then it went like mega-viral and everyone wanted a full version.

So half-way through you can suddenly see like an inch of roots on Mike the drummer and other than that you'd never know the two halves were filmed weeks or months apart.

I don't know if they count as covers exactly but I've got to include the lads from Sub Radio for their cover/parody of Bye Bye Bye, which I think sort of helped my mom get to grips with me coming out.

That's a good point.

I think both covers and remixes are in the spirit of the thread though - there's definitely a few welcome replies to the original post that seem more remix-y than cover-y.
evergemma.bsky.social
Holy cow!

This is incredible.
evergemma.bsky.social
Does it hinge on whether or not the song samples the original?

If there's a sample it's more of a remix, but if it's all played by the new band then it's a cover.

Special mention to the MCR version of All I Want For Christmas, because although I cannot fucking stand the song, if there's a band whose style and vibe PERFECTLY map to the song they're covering it's this one.

They've really made it their own.

Ah crap I momentarily forgot about Rammstein's cover of Kraftwerk's Das Model and now I'm wishing I chose that.

So I really love cover versions of songs, especially genre-bridging covers, and I'm going to probably spend all day going through the list here.

All the natural choices have already been said so I'm going for something a little less well known.
