Platner is the one. He’s way up on Collins in polls and we don’t need another boomer centrist in the Senate who will be in her mid 80s when her term ends. Time for a generational sea change.

My guess is Platner will pull a Mamdani here.

George Floyd would be 52 today if he had not been brutally murdered by police. He was a loving father taken in a heinous act of police brutality.

We dedicate this October 14th in his memory.

Knew this would backfire.

It’s all going to backfire.

Keep saying NO.

Keep pushing back.

There are many more of us, and their playbook is old and tired.

This is also the biggest challenge facing a Buddhist teacher, fwiw.

Always an uphill climb against pessimism.

Community is how we make the climb.

The biggest challenge is convincing people that things could be different and that their actions matter.

It also might be because at this point most of the mainstream media draws its paycheck from Trump allies or subsidiaries of oligarch assets.

It’s far past time for good journalist to jump shit and start their own collectives and collaborations as some are doing, thankfully.

Oof oligarch media can’t even spell anymore.

CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.

Same way young folks were treated when they refused to support W‘s messed up wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Somehow we didn’t “support our troops” because we didn’t want them to die in the wrong country.

The propaganda of violence is always unbelievably strong in this country.
sifill.bsky.social
I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

Columbus wasn't on a mission to expand scientific understanding. Nor did he "find" a new world. And far from progress, Columbus brought enslavement, genocide, and mass rape. Finally, “Columbus Day” is only 88 years old, it isn't some ancient American tradition.

The fact that top Republicans are already fearmongering about, lying about, the No Kings rallies this Saturday, across the US, tells you how worried they are about public pressure and protest against their reactionary, autocratic, anti-American agenda.

I'm going for free Saturday but does anyone have the Soros' cell number? I want to get paid to support democracy.

Can I get the $ in a bag of potato chips please?

The propaganda effort at CBS News has begun in full force.

There's this absurd hit piece saying his election would cause a large exodus at the NYPD.
A paused CBS News video features a close-up of a bearded man in a suit speaking outdoors. Video controls are visible over the image. The headline below reads about NYPD officers worrying about someone becoming the NYC mayor. The CBS News channel name and subscriber button appear at the bottom. Below the image is a headline about NYPD officers expressing concern over a potential NYC mayor. The Paramount+ logo and navigation menu appear at the top.

Meditate today, even for just five minutes.

In the present moment, we practice allowing thoughts, feelings, and perceptions to be exactly as they are, because the causes and conditions that created the present have already occurred.

But the future isn't written yet. Always remember that.

“If you disagree with hateful ideas, you’re being hateful” is a very interesting structure. It’s very similar to somebody saying “that’s not very Buddhist of you,” when I express a clear moral position.

The whole philosophical structure of how we descended into this madness is to be studied.
ethannichtern.com
A fascinating way to win an argument is to claim that anyone disagreeing is the thought-police. Especially in an era of gestapo kidnapping/disappearing humans. It’s almost like the whole idea of “cancel culture” was a preemptive intellectual smokescreen in preparation for real dictatorship.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

There are a tremendous number of ICE watchers out in Rogers Park this afternoon after some early morning abductions.

People are guarding churches and patrolling alleyways. Ran into Alderperson Hadden. First timers tell us they're primed and ready to use their whistles.

Mamdani volunteers out and about on a rainy day in my neighborhood today. Simply the best organized local campaign I’ve seen in my lifetime.

The political party that doesn’t *beg* this campaign for help and guidance nationally just isn’t very interested in winning.
