“For darkness terrifies. It swallows you, warps you, nullifies you. Who alive can possibly profess confidence in darkness? In the dark, you can't see.”
-Haruki Murakami, Dance Dance Dance

Why read past headlines: I dug through the responses to the fake halftime show “announcement” so you din’t have to.

You deserve this laugh. Give it to yourself.

But also there is a serious and comforting point: MAGA is bad at this culture thing. It will hurt them.

Mr. Yorgos makes such beautiful work
cotronis.bsky.social
Hello hello #portfolioday
My name is Yorgos, I'm Greek and I make book covers. I'm available for new projects from December onwards.

Here's some of my work!
Painting of a woman with a facial tatoo in long black robes holding a Zweihander Painting of a woman wearing a crown, in a field of rye. A wolf stands besides her, mostly in shadow. Book cover for the novel EPIPHANY. It depicts a woman half submerged in water with flowers growing around her. A book cover for the novel "The Moss," showing a girl covered in flowers and moss with glowing white eyes.

Heartbroken that, per his social media accounts, Drew Struzan has left us. His poster and album art was quite simply shorthand for imagination for countless young people.
E.T. Adventure poster, 1990. I still have one of these hanging in my childhood bedroom. Star Wars Special edition triptych, 1997. I remember seeing all of these in the paper as each film was re-released and just felt a burst of energy those mornings. Hook poster, 1991 Back to the Future poster, 1985

This administration is deploying the War On Terror playbook largely now to crack down on free, protected speech and assembly that Donald Trump doesn’t approve of, and they’re using armed troops deployed to blue cities in their efforts to normalize this; zeteo.com/p/inside-tru...

it's fascinating that the tactics that bubbled up during #TeslaTakedown are now bubbling up into ICE protests: goofy costumes for visibility and to deflate the "violent extremist" narrative, and whistles to shame the people being protested.

Both worked for us, adopt these tools!

a thread about how goofing around runs deep in portland's dna

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

In Portland, an ambulance was summoned to the ICE office to treat an injured protester (not clear how he was injured). But when the patient was loaded inside, ICE officers refused to let the ambulance leave and threatened to shoot the ambulance driver: www.wweek.com/news/2025/10...
Documents Allege a Federal Agent at Portland ICE Threatened to Shoot an Ambulance Driver
Feds delayed medics who had come to pick up an injured protester. Then, according to confidential incident reports, the agents became aggressive.

The rain has soaked through everything. Your socks just sprouted a mushroom. You haven't smelled decent BBQ since your last night in Texas, before mustering. Suddenly, a metallic creak echoes through the fog. They were coming again. The naked cyclists. "Just four weeks a year," you mutter.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Cartoon from The Oatmeal of a smug guy saying “I’m the chief brand officer of user engagement at DataRectal but what I really am is a storyteller” to which the caption replies “LMAO Virginia Woolf was a storyteller. Shel Silverstein was a storyteller. You work in tech, shitbird”
