I'm hiring a computational biologist interested in complex trait genetics using deep learning approaches. Reach out to me, if interested.
RIP, Prince of Darkness. Arguably in the Top 5 of most influential artists of my lifetime
Our new AJHG paper is online. We develop a new TWAS tool that uses local-ancestry information to improve power of gene mapping in admixed samples. Lead author Taylor Head (now at MD Anderson) did a phenomenal job spearheading this work!
Are the Falcons really going to keep Kirk as the backup?
Think they would make a play for Trae Young if he becomes available?

One of my students once caught me in my office air drumming to Limelight. I regret nothing
You feel old? I wrote my first dissertation paper listening to that album
The new NIH cap on indirect costs for federal grants awarded to universities will have a devastating effect on medical services provided by many hospitals and will likely spike college tuition as well. Any chance Congress pushes back on this?

Happy Chrismukkah to all the delightful half-half situations (like me)
Stills from the show Schitt's Creek in a shop. One character, a white man asks, "Do I not get a Merry Christmas?" A woman, who is also white, responds, "I thought you were Jewish." He responds back, "I'm a delightful half-half situation."

For those working in pathway and co-expression analysis, check out Andy’s recent preprint describing a more powerful and flexible framework for such studies!
Differential co-expression arises from shared unmodeled biological variation involving an observed risk factor and an unobserved (or latent) factor. We developed a method to detect such variation in a pathway for general gene expression studies!

I'm developing a pipeline to call CHIP mutations in UK Biobank using the DNA Nexus RAP that is fast/cheap/reproducible. Initial results are promising; calls looks reasonable and cost to do this across all of UKB is likely < 500$.

Feel free to DM if of interest.

Finally a VP who’s had to design a syllabus!
Did you enjoy your prep school experience? Would you recommend it to others?
Best and worst football movie?
Paul Giamatti did a wonderful job exemplifying so many of the instructors I had in prep school. Massive flashbacks
You are put in charge of NFL stadium music at US Bank. Do you keep the old Metallica/GnR/Queen staples or do you inject new blood? If the latter, what do you go with?
