Warming waters cause corals to “bleach” when these organisms expel symbiotic algae that provide nutrients, oxygen & vibrant colors.

The latest global bleaching event - researchers estimate >84% of the planet's coral ecosystems have been affected since Jan 2023 - has made it clear the crisis is now.

The Regime's goal is to grind everyone down. Plain & simple. Our goal is to refuse this by taking turns to fight where and how we can. When one group needs to bow out, then another group needs to step in and so on. We don't all have to do everything. We can all do something though. Stay in the fight

“Restructuring” because the Whitehouse and their allies choose destruction of all the good parts of the United States federal government because it won’t make them a personal profit. Also, they hate science, people who do good things for everyone instead of for them only, and actual reality.

Frost warning for tonight here in western WA. Might be our first real frost. So I made sure to harvest the last of our cherry tomatoes. I'm going to miss these when they are gone 😔 🌱

I find this long term study really interesting. Seeing how life grows and gets established on a new island is really cool! When working on restoration projects, we often rely on natural recruitment. A very different situation, but still some lessons to learn from this island study. 🌎
A new island erupted from the sea – can it show us how nature works without human interference?
The volcanic island of Surtsey emerged in the 1960s, and scientists say studying its development offers hope for damaged ecosystems worldwide

yeah man, trans reporters, whom the ny times derogatorily calls "trans activists" so that normies won't listen to them, have been reporting on ADF activity in the UK since 2018.

bigotry in journalism makes you late to the story.

Really important NYT investigation finds that the ADF has been working with Reform, 'courting the party since at least 2024' and that the British arm 'orchestrated Mr Farage’s appearance in Congress, reaching out to ask if he would like to give evidence on censorship'

"Although the dismantling of the CDC has cost the country its oldest, most stalwart resource for vaccine information, there remain many other resources for reliable, trustworthy & evidence-based information on vaccines." TY @tarahaelle.bsky.social for the list :

Every time someone talks about “curing” autism, what they’re really saying is:

That autism is a disease
That we are broken
That we shouldn’t exist

It’s not just wrong - it’s dehumanising

We’re not a problem to be solved.
We’re real, valid humans

Why is that so hard to see?

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

ICE secretly kidnap autistic boy during bathroom break—never notify parents.

Mother reported him missing a week ago—turns out ICE had him detained the whole time.

He was helping sell fruit and asked to go to the restroom—by the time she was done helping a customer he was gone.

Why the ‘Manic pixie dream girl’ trope isn’t just insulting—it’s dangerous: "After masking and surviving for all this time, if there’s one thing neurodivergent women are entitled to, it’s the right to be themselves." By Charlotte Colombo:

Opinion: Time’s up for the ‘manic pixie dream girl’ trope
When I say ‘I’m not like other girls’, I mean it. I’m referring to being autistic and ADHD, writes Charlotte Colombo

Frustrating that 26 Senate Dems voted for this. Though I was glad to see that Washington State's two senators didn't vote for it.

1. Last night, 26 Senate Dems helped pass a NDAA containing a military trans sports and surgery ban and dropped demands for protections against US troop deployments in the bill.

It is the latest in the national fight over must-pass bills during the shutdown.

The bill passed by a wide margin in the Senate and will be the starting point for negotiations with the House, which contain more severe anti-trans riders.

I haven't except just taking the seed heads and spreading them in different areas. But I have had a fair number volunteer in new areas. Even coming up in areas with a lot of existing plants. I was thinking about creating some bare ground areas to seed this fall and see if they come up.

If your senator voted for this you should contact them and tell them that they need to support trans rights and not vote for bills that attack them.

Fall is here and the nights are getting cold. And while pollinators are preparing for winter, having some late flowers can help them survive the cold. Here in western WA, our native Douglas asters still have some flowers. I'm slowly planting more for late season flowers to support our pollinators. 🌱
Not a lot of flowers left, but they are among the last native flowers in our area. They have small daisy like lavender flowers with yellow centers. They start blooming in mid-summer and keep going into October. In this picture older blossoms have turned to small seed heads.
