New Review out in @angewandtechemie.bsky.social: "Organic Spin-State Photoswitches" will tell you how to generate diradicals on demand, change spin states from singlets to triplets, in a bistable fashion. By Takuma & Joël @UniCologne

Really mind-blowing work by the Kathan team. Proud of you, Tommy and Mira as our two former students 😉

I‘m thrilled to see our group‘s inaugural paper published in @science.org! Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to this project!
This week in Science, researchers report an artificial molecular motor that can twist a molecular thread to form a mechanically interlocked molecule. The approach creates opportunities to fabricate mechanically interlocked molecules with precise structural control.

Cheers and welcome to our new postdoc Palash from Bandy's group, Subhajit Bandyopadhyay, at IISER Kolkata.
Looking forward to many cool new moleculecus!

Our group had a great time at #ISMSC2025 in Kyoto. Thanks to the organizing team around Ogoshi sensei – great job. Many new friends and great science is what we take home.

Great collaboration and team effort with @feldmannlab.bsky.social on the photophysics side and with the Hechtlab (HU Berlin) on the surface characterization. Thanks to all of you.
Homochiral versus Racemic Helicene-based COFs, out in @jacs.acspublications.org #JACS. Great job by José, who defended his PhD the day before. He enjoyed beating his hexagonal COF-Piñata and finally made it vanish. pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10....

Did some tidying up of the links for chemistry related starter packs, arranged loosely by subject area, and added who maintains the list so you know who to speak with if you'd like to be added!

Mechanically interlocked 2D Polymers! Fascinating structures by @dichtel.bsky.social and team

And then from Madison Bardot and collaborators in the Becker, Muller & Dichtel groups, there's MOLECULAR chain mail, locked in place by siloxanes and then exfoliated in sheets

Entertaining historic thread on Carbyne
This post has inspired me to finally do something I was thinking about for a long time: post a short 🧵 about "carbyne" - which could also be known as the Russian carbon 🐻.

#ChemSky #AcademicSky
It looks like (1) the hypothetical carbon allotrope "carbyne" has not been made yet, contrary to literature reports, and (2) it probably isn't going to be, either.

Our preprint on the Faraday rotation of chiral organic polymer films is out! Wonderful collaboration with Tim Swager and his group @mitchemistry.bsky.social and Jess Wade. @oxfordchemistry.bsky.social. #Chemsky 🧪 #Physics doi.org/10.26434/che...

We learnt a lot in this one, so here's a short 🧵 1/11
Diagram of Faraday rotation: the rotation of linearly polarised light as it passes through a sample under the influence of a magnetic field parallel to the light propagation direction.

After a 5-year gestation, we can finally let chemists know what happens when you fuse donor/acceptor groups to s-indacene. This was a beast of a manuscript, with Bella doing 85% of the work. The 4 isomers would be impossible to make if they were acenes!

Very comprehensive study of several Donor–Acceptor s-indacenes. Happy to see Bella's work out. Congratulations to everyone.

As I'm still starting with Bluesky, I thought that I would create a porous materials starter pack. Let me know if you want to be added or taken off this list.

Big congrats on finding and investigating that photoisomerisation so well. Very nice work, Stefano and team.

Congratulations, David. That's an amazing position in a wonderful city. I just visited a few weeks ago.

OK #chemsky do your thing. I have an immediate PhD vacancy working on a MOF / crystallography / electron diffraction project with Syngenta. Home fees and stipend are covered. Spread the word!
