Raising an autistic child is complicated and at times difficult, or nearly impossible.

Please understand the issue has little to do with autism, but other people; gatekeepers, medics, LA officers, teachers..

How you practically deal with them I discuss in my “Practical Guide on Autism”.

“I am begging the autism research and clinical community: Please put more efforts into autism-specific medical accommodations and training so that people like my [high-support adult autistic] son can get the medical care they need.”

Clinicians must put more effort into autism-specific medical care
Without it, autistic adults with high support needs like my son are missing out on treatments that could reduce their suffering and improve their quality of life.

In the 1930s a party openly blamed disabled people, chronically ill & mentally ill people for taking money away from working families.

The consequences are remembered in a Denkmal in Berlin.

All main parties have NOT learnt that lesson.

HMG are not like that party, but don’t they read history?

How do the police know your autistic loved one is autistic?

A response of they should know is not the answer. Many officers will have zero experience of autism & most people don’t know their rights.

Most forces offer an autism awareness card.

Someone has said that autism should be split into two categories:

1. Autistic - for the non disabled autistic people

2. Autism - for the disabled autistic people

IMO it appears the self 🆔 (not self diagnosed) don’t wish to be lumped with autistic people.

As an unpaid carer I realised the greatest threat to my loved one was ignorance.

Ignorance of need
Ignorance of autism
Ignorance of invisible conditions
Ignorance of assumptions
Ignorance of stereotypes

Glorified & wilful ignorance by politicians & professionals.

Society. “You don’t look autistic”

L1, “it’s invisible”

Society, “You trying to be funny?”

L1, “Nope, but your ignorance is visible”

Society, “What?”

When we started our journey with autism, we listen to the behaviourists.

We were wrong. We knew in weeks.

All behaviourism does is create harm.

So teachers, please listen all you are doing is industrialising harm.
