Today Elections Alberta requested $13.5 million to be able to administer recalls and referendum.

The UCP committee in charge revised their request to just over $1 million.

And then voted it through.

The UCP just defunded recall/referendum.

Really good article. The criticisms of Carney using tried & true diplomacy while negotiating with a hostile regime, are absurd, naive, and in my view, bad faith propaganda. Hoekstra demonstrated exactly what chest-thumping, ignorance & boorish behaviour achieve: chaos & breakdowns in talks. #cdnpoli

Mr. Hoekstra may have been
instructed by his boss to play hardball, which he has done more than once.
However, the role of a diplomat is to navigate political tensions with skill and decorum, not exacerbate them with his own hostile words and barely concealed contempt and scorn.

Mulroney's election in 1988 was the one time I've literally shed tears at the result. I was a one-issue voter - free trade. Some of us could see the eventual integration of Canada into the U.S., more than just economically, and we've been proven right. It remains one of the saddest days of my life.
