10 years ago today since I took part in the 24 hour comic challenge at LICAF. Here I am in the early hours of the morning with 24 hours comics kingpin @thingsbydan.co.uk What an experience! I’ll never forget looking up at about 3am to find Kate Beaton, Seth & Darwyn Cooke watching.

This was a long time coming and I'm glad we finally made it happen. Words, including the actual lettering, by @dialhforhagai.bsky.social , pictures by me

PANEL ONE: A smoky, dilapidated city street. There is an apocalyptic feel to it, a
desolate wrongness.
1.) NARRATION (upper left corner): Your skin still recalls the touch of fire.
2.) NARRATION (lower right corner): Your lungs still feel the smoke.
PANEL TWO: In this run-down urban landscape we see a closed door. It looks ornate
but worn, hinting at past glories but only hinting.
3.) NARRATION (upper left corner): You cry out for shelter, and it finds you.
4.) NARRATION (lower right corner): You long for a welcoming voice, and the
warmth of mine blankets you.
PANEL THREE: We come closer to the door and it opens, though we cannot yet see
what lies beyond it.
5.) NARRATION (upper left corner): In my hand did your world come into being.
6.) NARRATION (lower right corner): By my hand will it go the way of others
before it.
PANEL FOUR: We can see through the doorway now: inside is a glorious, expansive
temple. It has a marble shine to it, a sheen of the untouched.
7.) NARRATION (upper left corner): I am keeper of broken things…
8.) NARRATION (center of panel): I am absence and presence…
9.) NARRATION (lower right corner): and my house can be yours.

PANEL ONE: We can see the main hall of the temple, with an altar far off in the
distant center. An inset panel on left-hand side depicts the silhouette of a hand
gripping the blade of a sword and bending it with ease as if it were paper.
1.) NARRATION: Stay, and know for once how it feels to be holy, to be whole.
PANEL TWO: We can see the holy scriptures, hidden behind glass, open to a page
written in a script we cannot read.
2.) NARRATION: Stay, and let your touch heal all earthly wounds.
PANEL THREE: A row of statues displays prophets, saintly and wise. An inset panel on
the left-hand side shows a royal feast.
3.) NARRATION: Stay, and live as the word and the arm of a law undying.
PANEL FOUR: A shot of the temple's altar, situated directly under a square hole in
the ceiling for the sun to shine through.
4.) NARRATION (upper left corner): Stay within me—
5.) NARRATION (lower right corner): or begone.

PANEL ONE: A marble mannequin wears the vestments of a prophet. The blank head
of the mannequin is streaked with blood, and the vestments are torn in places.
1.) NARRATION: Leave, and a hundred thousand jaws shall be set upon you.
PANEL TWO: A shot of the dark catacombs beneath the temple. In an inset panel on
right-hand side we can see the silhouette of a man's torso; around the silhouette's
neck, fully rendered, is a barbed whip, with blood flowing around it.
2.) NARRATION: Leave, and you shall know the pain that only the shadows
know.
PANEL THREE: One room of the temple is full of plants. Only barely can we see their
true nature: they are growing out of now-rotten corpses.
3.) NARRATION: Leave, and your blood shall paint the sky on that day of days.
PANEL FOUR: Again we can see the altar; around it kneel skeletons begging for
mercy. An inset panel shows only red, angry skies above a dark desolate valley.
4.) NARRATION: Leave, and learn how limited your imaginings of hell have been.

PANEL ONE: A ceremonial candle, burning weakly.
1.) NARRATION: Will your name ascend to veneration?
PANEL TWO: The ceremonial candle burns, its flame a bit bigger now.
2.) NARRATION: Or will your skin line the pathways of the eternally condemned?
PANEL THREE: The candle flares for a moment, its flame much bigger.
3.) NARRATION: Think on this, and think well—a door, once closed, cannot open.
PANEL FOUR: The flame is small again.
4.) NARRATION: The choice, of course, is yours.
