Walking into a Republican's office in 2025.
It was a bad breathing day, so I had to use my nebulizer. Is the air quality bad in Indy today?

To catch you up, Indiana University’s student newspaper reported:
• It was told to print no news in its homecoming edition, set to come out Thursday.
• It refused.
• The director of student media was fired.
• Hours later, IU cut all print editions of the paper, including Thursday’s issue.
UPDATE: More at Indiana University, with all IDS print being cut.

The university chancellor claims “the campus is completing the shift from print to digital effective this week” — despite the fight earlier this week having been over a print Homecoming edition. www.idsnews.com/article/2025...

Indiana University fully cut the Indiana Daily Student's print newspaper - including the special publications it had earlier indicated it wanted us to run - Tuesday evening, hours after firing its student media director. Our next edition, part of volume 158, in our 158th year of publication, was set to go out
Thursday.
I will add that these journalists and news orgs did the right thing, the only thing they could do, and I applaud them. It's just that I think the regime expected this reaction. It's a win-win for them either way, and a net loss for the American people.
I love people who tell stories with 'too many details' simply because their lore, their life, has been so varied, rich, and full that they can't contain them. I love collecting those stories.

Just a reminder: The tenth anniversary editions of the original Southern Reach trilogy are still out in the wild, selling well. NYT bestsellers and on a lot of best-of-decade or this century lists. With new intros by Karen Joy Fowler, NK Jemisin, and Helen MacDonald. Buy from you favorite indie.
Southern Reach covers with morphed boar, rabbit, and owl, art by Pablo Delcan.

I met a new neighbor today that I've been parasocially connected to for a while while I was out on a bike ride. How fun.

IU previously directed the Indiana Daily Student to stop printing news coverage in our newspaper. Upon pushback, the university fully cut print, including our special editions. The IDS was not involved in the decision.

Media School Dean David Tolchinsky sent the order to IDS leadership in an email responding to its appeal that the school not censor the newspaper. And the dean attributed the decision to “the campus.” He has not yet responded to a message for clarification.

Currently reading The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. My first time. I'm enjoying it so far. #spookyreads #booksky
Every single one of these fucking hypocrites supported the pardoning of the J6 insurrectionists.
Mike Johnson: "They berated a Capitol police officer, screamed at him. He was merely standing his post. It shows, again, their disdain for law enforcement, the Democrats, screaming, assaulting officers."

“the constitution forbids race conscious remedies” would be news to the people who wrote the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments
Griem goes there, arguing in response to Justice Jackson that there can be no race-conscious remedy absent a finding of intentional discrimination.

Would seem to me that a Congressman beating his girlfriend and having a judge order a restraining order against him is "really serious..."
Q: This has been reported for a while. Cory Mills was accused of beating a girlfriend in his DC apt. Are you concerned about these allegations?

JOHNSON: You have to ask Rep. Mills about that. He's been a faithful colleague. I don't know the details. Let's talk about things that are really serious

Paint on streets is *not* infrastructure.
Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.
