This dynamic of Young Republicans staking out positions far to the right of older, more "normie" Republicans has been a feature of the US conservative movement since the 1960s. Over time those further right elements just got incorporated into the mainstream. bsky.app/profile/seth...

Booked on a lads weekend with some work colleagues some years back, felt pressured to go despite despising half of them. Three days before going, booked two nights in a hotel a few miles away & went 'missing' on the first night. Turned back up and claimed I'd been arrested.
