Also, there is this weird revisionism about TRON. The first made money, the second made money. Not STAR WARS money but these “what can you expect with a TRON movie?” responses are not lining up with what actually happened.

As I've said to others, I'm not suggesting that Tron is a juggernaut franchise but historically it's done okay. Tron Legacy was a moderate success at the box office with a less established main cast outside of Jeff Bridges. But I've seen so many people say "I love Tron but I'm not watching Leto"

While I wouldn't suggest that Tron is a freight train franchise Legacy did respectable numbers. The amount of people I've seen saying they would have given it a go were it not for Leto's presence suggests hie casting is definitely a factor given that the original sequel premise was ditched for him.
