Congratulations! 🎉

I was delighted to find that my FLBS was sold out and had to back-order it for our Graphic Novel club, personally.
Only got to put about half an hour into Pokémon Z-A last night, but so far it's asked me to:

- Endorse a business I've never been to on TikTok
- Install an unknown phone app from an anonymous sender
- Pick Tepig

What are we teaching the kids these days?
As is the case with so many things, they're holding onto good ideas! And then burying them under so much cover-your-legals and eye-grabbing short-sighted ideas that they lose their luster.

At least after all of these years I'm finally equipped to be a GAMER, allegedly

[4/4 - Bonus]
Either *only* early printings have this insert for a very time-limited download, or this'll be a wee downer for later buyers.

And I *love love love* having art and maps on the inside of the cover! They're completely illegible behind a Switch 2 box! Maybe this should've been the insert.

[3/4]
I get that it's marginally different than a native-to-Switch-2 game, but having "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" on the spine is garish and illegible on an already-anemic space.

Relatedly: Objectively good that the back-of-box text is bilingual! But damn do you need a magnifying glass.

Weird off-the-cuff observations about the Pokémon Legends Z-A box, because it's a convergence of tiny things that irk me and are becoming increasingly common.

First off: A big ol' block of multilingual text (which is *not* line-separated by language) that feels like it belongs on the back?

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔

My second-favorite aspect is the set design.

My favorite aspect of Alan Wake I so far is how deeply unapologetic it is in building out its own Definitely Legally Distinct version of Twin Peaks.

The very format of Shapiro's prompt is emblematic of the "presumed consent" tenor that AI peddlers leverage.

No good-faith interaction begins with a leading question.

Maybe this is only news to me, but signal boosting this anyway because it can't be understated what a treasure trove this archive of Game Freak's zines is. These volumes only show up VERY occasionally online and command a lot of money; obtaining a full set to scan would've cost thousands of dollars.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
For how nosy modern autocorrects are, every single one lacks the feature I really want:

Refusing to send or save communication if it detects that you've used a Three Letter Acronym without writing out the full phrase first.

Oh no... Andrew Dice wasn't just a cool, friendly pillar of the community, he was one of the people most influential in bringing down the boundaries between the Japanese indie games scene and the rest of the world.

He opened doors and brought so many great stories to us. Farewell to a real one.
Absolutely devastated by this news. SpaceDrake was no doubt a huge influence in drumming up interest for Japanese indie games localized into English and pushing for them on digital distribution storefronts like steam. Huge loss. Might be time for another playthrough of Recettear in his honour.
There are umpteen reasons why the "make fetch happen" insistence on this kind of tooling sucks, but it being foundationally opposed to basic design principles is a real stinker.
Back when I was in university studying software engineering, a constant point of guidance was building *lean* programs. We spent semesters learning to shave KB of memory, slough of unnecessary assets, etc.

This week Samsung pushed a 3GB AI-centric app to my phone with no way to opt out.
About a week left to pick up a half-dozen or more #Shmuptember titles!

Street Cleaning Day and Antecrypt have been my biggest winners so far, but fingers crossed for a Voidblazers compatibility update!
A strong handful of little picks in here for #Shmuptember in here! Gonna thread a couple of them together as I play them:
The Play for Peace: Games for Palestine charity bundle is now live! Nearly 400 games from creators all around the world, with proceeds going directly to Gaza relief efforts.

We made a launch trailer to celebrate this moment 👇 Please RT.
Guys will see this and just think "Hell Yeah"
I did bake pizza for lunch that on the box was described as "thin & crispy".

It certainly doesn't strike me as a good outcome that *any* pizza should be *extra* crispy.
