I’m so struck by this video. A regular day in Logan Square in front of a grocery store and ICE pulls up and tear gassed people. Funston Elementary School is right across the street as well. This is a major corridor in Logan Sq. No concern for human safety

It’s crazy to think that for the first 16 years of my life I was completely dependent on my parents to go anywhere beyond my neighborhood. When I have kids, I don’t want to be responsible for that, for that long. Kids should have more independence.

This is what crossings in front of schools should look like.

Raised crossing, short crossing distance, 20mph speed limit, close street trees for calming, protected bike lane, two-way road narrows to a pinch point / cars have to slow down and take turns.

The heated debates about cars in cities aren’t a matter of ideology. They’re a matter of geometry. You simply cannot accommodate increasing travel demand by creating more space for cars. There’s no room for that without demolishing buildings, cutting trees, and endangering bikers and pedestrians
