This stands out in an already maddening article. Gosh, are there any disciplines - perhaps ones that we’ve spent decades gutting because they encourage these very habits - that could effectively prepare students for this apparent Value(s?) Migration?

The real value is migrating from information transfer to judgment development, from transactional learning to transformational learning. In an AI saturated world, premium skills are distinctly human: verification of sources, contextual decision-making, ethical reasoning under ambiguity, and accountability for real-world outcomes.
Waiting for a historian or lit scholar to work themselves up to saying ‘yeah… but philosophy…’
Anyone who claims that Silicon Valley would be better with more humanities education has to grapple with the fact that Peter Thiel was a philosophy major.

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.
Education Department wipes out special ed office in shutdown layoffs, union says
The Education Department laid off nearly everyone at the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.

I know sports fan/"stan" culture is toxic because Diane died and people are saying "She was iconic AND defended a child molester" and people are nodding along like, yes! Both are true!

Meanwhile, I tweeted "Don't forget Kobe was a rapist" and got so many death threats, cops told me to go into hiding

Thanksgiving in Canada has nothing to do with Columbus!

We are a colonial country with a million things to atone for but Thanksgiving is not one of them.

Our Thanksgiving is timed with the harvest and it's literally just "Be grateful for harvest"

US Imperialism has brain rotted too many of you.
Take a few minutes fellow Canadians. You will be surprised, I’m sure, to see that the fundamental premise of this survey is not ‘if’ but ‘how’. My answers were not what they were looking for.

I use Canada Post to ship out my prints. Its crucial for my business. Canada Post staff are fantastic when I go in to ship stuff out. Corner store depots are a NIGHTMARE for small businesses. Try going in with 30 packages while people are buying lotto. UPS and Fed Ex triple my costs.

As a historian, I truly like the "foreverized pastness" part of this. And I agree, on a daily basis we are floating towards a permanent establishment of badly manipulated memories. A plural of nonsense histories. #skystorians
So-called #genAI means the abolition of the future through the proliferation of endless streams of stochastically rendered generic pasts. Having turned large parts of the cultural archive into training data, it now traps us in a foreverized pastness, a 24/7 nostalgia for a past that never existed
have just come across a YouTube account that has been using Sora to upload reels of fake, AI-generated “90s sitcoms” every few hours
Will visit the website when not on phone and look into it. Thank you!
Hi, I very much want to use at least the triangular trade map or similar in teaching but not publishing - how can I pay you? I don’t want to just copy yr image…
Oh shoot is redwall doomed
My word this treehouse gets pretty tall eh
Ugh we’ve been through dog man (and captain underpants). Brutal stuff. Their attitudes were so awful when they were in those. I’m trying to push the stuff I read as a kid - time warp trio, redwall - and they just aren’t interested. They just love Archie Andrews.
Thanks Brodie - that looks really cool. A weekly magazine delivery. Dang, that takes me back.
Sure, but Archie comics are a disconnected series of 3-4 page type cast narratives packaged in 1000-page anthologies. I would like them to read longer narratives with plots and character development and even conflict. But sure, Archie Superhero Comics 1000-page Holiday Anthology is a real book.
So if you had a 6 and 8 year old who are both big readers, but what they read is thousands of pages of Archie comics a week, how would you move them onto real books? I get the value of a tight four-page narrative but they gotta develop some attention spans. #kids #parents
Yeah but now you’re both screaming 🙂
They’ve got one at the Fisher library here in Toronto - I saw it fourteen years ago. Pretty cool stuff!
That’s a really nice way to put it!
Being generous, we could say that Troy’s wall was never broken?
