boy to a bunch of other kids: "listen up everyone! any of you got a good idea on how to get tama back home?"
one kid: "I've got it! we can get a big, big kite and ride it all the way up to heaven."
everyone starts cheering, tossing him up in the air: "hip hop hooray!"
then, they all run off as the boy crashes to the ground: "let's go make one right now!"

Miki Nakatani in Keizoku is such a powerhouse performance because it's like as attractive as anyone's ever been but also I've never been more sure someone smells like mothballs and mold in my life

New translation!

The movie that shocked a young Hirokazu Kore-eda and has followed him his entire career...from the director of Dream Island Girl and Utopiano, Shoichiro Sasaki, I'm happy to share English subs for the gentle masterpiece that is "The Flow of a River, the Sound of a Violin"

Enjoy!!

I am covering EVERY First Person Shooter EVER made in Japan.

From 1985 to 2025, that's over 40 years and 70 games of gaming history.

This was without a doubt the most ambitious video I've ever made.

the truth finally comes out...
boy talking to big brother: "say, big bro"
big brother, reading paper, not paying attention: "Yuh-huh?"
boy: "We figured we should let you in on what's going on."
brother: "yuh-huh..."
boy: "you see, Tama here is actually an angel"
brother: "Ha! Gahahaha! Haha...ha...ha...aha..." does a double take "wait, WHAT?!"

man: "still, must be a real pain not having a name. but don't worry, I'll think up something that fits."
door to door salesman appears: "Hey, how about buying some tamanegi -- japanese onions?
man: huh? tama...negi? onions?
man laughing his head off: "that's it! we'll call you 'tama'! it's perfect! bahahaha"
Yeah!! They had a little vid at the start where Masayuki talked a bit about making it, mondo interesting!

Finished Tsui no Sora '99 last night and have been mulling it over all day. Fairly short (all 4 routes together took me about 10 ish hours) but packed to the brim with ideas. Filled with that perfect youthful philosophical angst that really gets me excited to think and delve deeper.
Rewrite!! Big recommend from me -- a 2025 time loop movie with a script by the time loop king River/Beyond Infinite Two Minutes writer...that's also an overt Obayashi homage!

Super reflective and thoughtful and generous, totally love it
