Hello theatre pals, and everyone. It’s nice to see you here.
I live in Athens now, and I’ve been taking a lot of pictures, relearning my way around the old place.
pixelfed.social/i/web/profil...
An old fashioned metal door with bars and a later metal panel added, with an ancient air con unit or filter in the upper left corner and an even more ancient sheet of corrugated metal, probably once a security measure rolled up above it. The door is set in a stone wall next to a plainer wall, either concrete or plastered. The whole thing is painted exactly the same colour, a sort of pale ochre.

Colour photo. A flat-roofed neoclassical building in cream, with restrained classical mouldings under renovation. On the left, the scaffolding is covered by a white tarp withlife-sized drawing of the building. In the main part of the image, the tarp panel is down, and workers in hi vis vests and safety helmets are on the balcony, now denuded of its column border, framed by the arm of the construction crane to the right.Three more workers stand in the street, one right in the centre of of the photo. This renovation has been going on for years, perhaps only on Sundays, when this was taken, as it’s very close to the presidential and prime ministerial offices, in mansions next to the national Gardens, a couple of streets over.

A selection of images from games etc. Hannah Nicklin has worked on, a screencap or key art image from: Saltsea Chronicles, Black Mirror: Thronglets, Mutazione; and the cover of Writing for Games: Theory & Practice. Also featured two reviews.

One from Eurogamer: 5/5 Saltsea Chronicles
"Onwards you go in pursuit of your missing crew, then, your story diverging further from mine with every island choice, with every flick of the head or settling of the lips. Memories/Artefacts? Skeptical/Curious? And astonishingly, through all these moving parts, all this phase space, my story still made rich sense, and actually built to a truly devastating climax.

Scream/Weep? Fittingly, for me, Saltsea Chronicles turned out to be a story about choices as well as a story made of choices. It made me think about the big decisions I make in life, but also the decisions that shape a life that I don't even notice having made. Ripples turning to waves and all that. You must play this. It's luminous."

The second of Mutazione from Gamespew, 9/10
"Mutazione is a game that builds up relationships within a community you instantly feel a part of. The main story is secondary to the real drama and the heart of the town, but it’s necessary. It’s extremely well-written, and the hand-drawn environments are beautifully designed. Die Gute Fabrik has crafted a sweet, powerful fairy tale that delves into the human psyche and allows you to reside there for five hours or so." A virtual biz card on a dark purple background, featuring an image of a white woman in glasses, with blonde hair, speaking at a podium. Next to it is the title Hannah Nicklin, and the details Creative Director, Narrative Lead/Designer, Senior Writer, Consultant.

I agree with this, “I WILL RESIDE IN MY ROBOT BUNKER WITH TOILET CARROTS TO SURVIVE THE WAR” is men’s version of “I want to live in a vintage farmhouse with all my female friends, we’ll raise goats and open a little knit ware and apothecary store”

In another life, I wrote a whole novel about bunker building doomsday preppers and managed to interview several on background for research. My overwhelming conclusion is that they do it for fun. Because Diggy Diggy Holes.

PSA: The whole doomsday bunker fantasy is fortunately one of the most painfully obvious aspects of these billionaire's delusional views of reality. It's a self-propped up fantasy that I'm guessing people who build bunkers are getting well paid for. As is the "computer intelligence" takeover.

see it, the more exasperating my feed. That said, I am as likely to be annoyed by bad opinions on art as horrified by world events.

Every time they say Antifa, we say pro democracy. Not because we aren’t anti-fascist, but because ‘pro democracy movement’ is what you call it when a populace peacefully demands their democratic rights from a corrupt authoritarian regime.

My friend is in town and we couldn’t go to the show we had booked because the theatre unions were taking part in the strike, but the restaurants were open so we ate a lot of good food and I had too much to drink.
Goodnight.

Another massive red flag.

Talk to your friends. Just acknowledge it together: this is dangerous and frightening. We have to stop burning our world.

People who feel that are the majority. We’re just shy.

Be seen. Be heard.

And all the while the plunder and destruction of our actual, existing forests just carries on worsening

Oct 14th - The wealthy, elderly widow, Mrs Emily French was murdered. Leonard Vole, who was recently made sole beneficiary of Mrs French's estate was prime suspect.

📽️📅 Witness for the Prosecution (1957)
3 Screenshots from the movie "Witness for the Prosecution" (1957): First, a courtroom scene with a barrister addressing the court, surrounded by other legal professionals and a serious-looking audience. Subtitles read: "Leonard Stephen Vole, did you or did you not on the night of October 14 last, murder Emily Jane French?" Second, a continuation of the courtroom setting with the barrister speaking, and the audience attentively listening. Subtitles read: "murder Emily Jane French?" Third, a view of the defendant standing in the witness box, facing the court, with a subtitle conversation: "- I did not. - Thank you, that will be all."

Old Athens: Courtyard.
#Athens #UrbanPhotography
Colour photo. Taken through the gate, the side courtyard of a 20th Century Athenian house, of a kind once typical and now disappearing. Alternating red and white concrete tiles, a metal staircase going up to a flat roof on the left, a concrete staircase heading up on the right and then turning sharply left. It’s not clear to me if they are going to the same place - the house, a pale earthy yellow, is on the left. Underneath the concrete staircase, at the back of the image, a door leads to a store room. Two tall trees in concrete built-in planters shade the courtyard, several smaller plant pots and a metal barbecue complete the image. It’s not big, or ostentatious, but you could have a small table out in the summer shade.

Door: Vyronas
#Athens #UrbanPhotography
Colour photo. The 20th century decorative metal grille of a front door, painted mustard yellow, and dusty with neglect. The pattern is of nested arcs, not unlike a traditional Japanese wave pattern, braced with three horizontal lines. In the lower part of the door, this pattern is placed over a solid metal pattern, in the upper over textured glass. Two rows are in the image, one of each.
