Oh he meant well -- sweet guy who seemed like he was hoping to work his way up in the rental car company, but also genuinely liked customer contact. He laughed when I told him I'd never hear the end of it and said "what about this Ford then?"

I would feel a lot better about flying out of O'Hare this afternoon if the local news wasn't showing me stories about the air traffic controllers protesting because the fed shutdown means they're working without pay.
PAY THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS PLEASE!

Oh, great idea - beef is so expensive right now, even in Montana in the middle of the actual herds of steers, that we're eating a lot of pork chops and I'm getting bored.

If my mother hadn't died so suddenly, and I hadn't lived so far away, I'd have seen if some cancer researcher wanted her. She was 83, a lifelong chainsmoker who never got lung cancer.
But I had about 5 minutes to make decisions at 3am. 🤷‍♀️

It's hard to overstate the aura Lish carried all through the 90s when he was still running a very exclusive workshop in NYC. There's a really interesting book out there that has Carver's originals and Lish's edits. Was kind of a scandal for a minute, but I think it was a real collaboration.

Guy looked at me like "Why wouldn't you want to impress your family?"
Little did he know this was a horse show funeral, with a parking lot full of very expensive pickups (that actually tow horse trailers). They'd roll their eyes twice, excessive expense AND useless.

An IG of a woman and her kid walking in the Marias today in flat sandals gave me internet sympathetic foot pain.

Rental car guy tried to upgrade me to a BMW. "I'm not showing up at a family funeral in rural Illinois in a BMW!" I said. "I'd never hear the end of it."
I'm safely driving some small Ford SUV.

if bill murray wants some good PR he could pay for a lawyer or otherwise massively financially support the clarinet player who got snatched in the middle of playing the Ghostbusters theme music

I feel so much less worried seeing how held he is. And we all told him, there's no turning into the wreck his father was after the divorce in the 70s. He promised her before she died, and she enlisted folks to keep an eye on him.

We were raised more like siblings than cousins, and these two in particular have really stepped in since my brother died. In return, I triangulate their mother, who has become very difficult. Farm town where we've had a place since the 1860s. I'm so grateful we're all still close.

I don't often say "thank god for Walmart" but If you are stuck in a rural interstate hotel for a night and haven't had anything to eat in hours and do not want more fried food, you can find a heat-and-eat salmon and mashed potato meal and a bottle of cheap wine.

In awe of my "baby" cousin who just lost his wife. Four hours he and his daughter and several of her family members hugged and talked to people during the visitation. That girl was so loved. And they raised a solid kid.
So glad I came. Terrible event, but sometimes you need to hug your people.

My bereaved farm cousins' dad might have dementia, but apparently he remembers throwing my father into the Christmas tree one year for being an asshole. 😂

I think most of that was Gordon Lish

God, can you imagine the tech bros reaction to something so domestic? It'd be fun just to watch them lose their minds.

So far in this boarding area: old man in wheelchair bragging about killing people in the special forces, a girl applying deodorant, a dude snoring asleep w/eye mask, and a woman with a large bird dog pretending it's a service animal.

Pandemic really broke all social norms, didn't it? Even at six am people are goblins in this airport.

The Regime's goal is to grind everyone down. Plain & simple. Our goal is to refuse this by taking turns to fight where and how we can. When one group needs to bow out, then another group needs to step in and so on. We don't all have to do everything. We can all do something though. Stay in the fight

My go to travel option. The egg McMuffin has saved me on many an occasion.

Props to the Bozeman airport for amazing lighting in the ladies bathroom...

I admire both of them however as one who was in writing programs in the 90s, there was a lot of bad Carver imitation going down.

Perhaps I'm being American here, but what's the problem? And do we know that Faber wanted Transit?
