I’m not saying that I regularly had students read an article by Bari Weiss as an example of poorly written sophistry in my Classics seminars, but I’m not NOT saying that either. She’s a dangerously powerful hack and even the first yr students could see it immediately. I mean, if I ever did that. 😜

A musician, Oriana Korol, was peacefully playing clarinet with her protest band outside ICE facilities in Portland, OR.

When the band started playing “Ghostbusters,” ICE thugs suddenly poured outside, slammed her into the mud, arrested her and took her to a jail 9 miles away in Vancouver, WA.

Everyone across biomedicine should be very loud about this so this team's RIF status gets reversed. Nhanes has been key for tracking obesity & diabetes rates, identifying high blood lead levels in kids in the 70s, tracking progress on cholesterol lowering, guiding nutrient fortification programs etc

NHANES is an invaluable tool that many researchers including myself use to report on conditions in the general population.

Like the fact that ~40% of 12-21yo females are iron deficient.

I think that women and minorities could easily make the case or credible fear in the situation Joyce posits. (We’d all be scared, I’m thinking of defenses).

If men with guns and masks tried to pull me out of my car, I'd fight back. Courts should reject any claims by the government that this is aggression by the person being detained, resisting arrest, or that they're a flight risk.

I should say that we don’t generally do a lot of citation counting as part of merit evaluations in the humanities as much as I understand it to be done in the sciences. I’m familiar with the gratuitous sort and differences in authoring/citarion practices (spouse is MD/PhD).

Citations are for providing a road map to others for where to find the wider fabric of the argument as well as for giving credit to sources. I’ve never really heard complaints abt them in my field (humanities) except in rare instances that had more to do w/the researcher & quality of their work. 😬

Off point a bit, but if they are actually transporting anyone in the back part of a moving van they are violating the law (in a way similar to how they complain people come into the country). Wish the local LEOs would enforce at least basic effing traffic violations against these a-holes.
