I haven't been this excited since the time I sat in a room with Lady Hale and Mr Justice Hayden.

Will likely devour this later and report back.
Rather pleased to see this in my personal medical notes today.

Can you choose your bedtime?

We want to know how adults with learning disabilities &/or autistic adults spend their evenings & if they can choose their bedtimes!

If you have lived experience/support someone who does – please fill in our survey (online or easy read): stayuplate.org/the-stay-up-...

It is not a tragedy that people with learning disabilities and autistic people spend much of their lives locked up in hospitals. This isn’t bad fortune. It is deliberate state sanctioned harm.

Get Me to Hospital

We are working towards a final draft of guidance and discussion on supporting people determined as lacking the capacity to decide to be conveyed to hospital and refusing - using The Mental Capacity Act.

Huge thanks to everyone involved. Hope to share the outputs with you all.

Would the public rather the government prioritise spending on access to care in the community, or hospitals? Polling by @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social and @healthfoundation.bsky.social said they'd rather community services. Read more public opinions of the plans for health & care. https://buff.ly/4kbdQNd
If the solutions don't lie in a clinical approach or system then it should not be ruled or driven by a clinical approach or system.

A thought I've been pondering all day.

Whatever your view on assisted dying, the fact the approach voted through can fundamentally be changed in just two weeks- moving from a court to expert panel-does not calm concerns.

If society wants to make a change, it should do so knowing that safeguards can -and will- be changed over time.

Will we get any clearer answers on Lieven's challenge to Cheshire West?

Probably unlikely but still good background nerd fodder.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
I don't have any words. It's with this story and many others in my mind that I do everything I can to address the health inequalities and deaths faced by autistic people and people with learning disabilities.
