Imagine if you combined this with the US Army's not quite as stupid spade bayonet for the Springfield rifle. When you're on defense, you hide behind the shovel. Then, when it's time to clear the German trench, you fix the shovel to your rifle and charge. Brilliant.
I'm okay with just taking away their broadband and cell access. And putting their polling locations in the closest major metro area.
Now in later years I grew to hate all the shit walking in front of the camera in the other ones, too. But that was the first time I thought "wow I can't believe they did that" for a movie.
The special editions came out when I was about 7. I asked my dad to take me to see them. When we saw the musical number in ROTJ, I remember thinking, "Jeez, dad must think I'm dumb for wanting to come see this."
I think everyone should read (or re-read) Orwell's "The Lion and the Unicorn" and really think about how similar Britain in 1941 and America in 2025 are, as well as how the class politics he describes apply to our own time and place. It's not identical, but it's something to think about.
ordinary americans are filming ice agents and trying to save their neighbors. for all the hemming and hawing during 2024 about how democracy was an elite concern, the elites gave up far more quickly than average people.
Pretty much all of the Old Bolsheviks were members of fairly well-off peasant or bourgeois families. Stalin's father was a cobbler, giving him maybe one of the humbler backgrounds, but not by much. Probably not surprising given that they mostly got into revolutionary politics during university

nothing bad can happen. it can only good happen.
It is 2020. The proletarian leftists on Twitter are saying that a luxury good is too expensive now.

It is 2023. The proletarian leftists on X are saying that a luxury good is too expensive now.

AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising
You can't really blame the Raiders for the Marines having a bunch of chuds in their ranks, but the (re-)establishment of the Raiders (I mean the OG raiders were more like the current Rangers than the SEALs) was probably a mistake.
Army SF (the Green Berets) also are a bit different. The Rangers aren't T1 and are basically just light infantry. Other than that, I dunno, do we really need every branch to have a bunch of dudes trained exclusively to do this extremely narrow function?
What the Tier 1 special forces are good at is assassination missions. That's basically it (the USAF guys have slightly different use cases because they support the other guys). And their proliferation has more to do with funding during the GWOT than utility.

Consider how few anecdotes it took for the media to declare a Free Speech on Campus crisis.

Every day we get more evidence that the Republican Party is teeming with white supremacists yet elite institutions refuse to frame this as a crisis that needs the nation’s attention.

I need people to come to grips with the fact that the administration illegally deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia, said they didn't know where he was, then said they had no obligation to bring him back, brought him back, and is now arguing in court that they can deport him and it isn't going well
Ah, so it's really Pete "Bread Price Fixer" Buttigieg's fault
They're wrong though. All of the troops and officers involved were Peninsular War veterans and British.
Is there really anything that they do that wouldn't be better accomplished with conventional forces (or, at this point, a drone strike)? The bin Laden raid was cool, but I mean is that kind of thing worth all the bs?

part of my pitch for future democratic military policy is "we should crush the special forces and double crush the seals specifically"

they contribute little-to-nothing valuable to american defense and are riddled with war crimes and also just regular crimes
They're routing this through SOCOM ppl who have traditionally been used for assassinations abroad, presumably including occasional black ops on the high seas.
I’m surprised that the military has been so willing to break the law here.
This also hurts the left because it pointlessly denies the results of left wing economic policy. "Inflation is killing poor worker wages" was simply false in 2024, but it sure did help the reactionary agenda
I think it really hurts the left/center-left's ability to have an economic policy conversation that left-leaning leaders have pushed simple and misleading narratives like the idea wages have been stagnant. They haven't been.

Doesn't mean left policies are bad, but wages aren't stagnant.
"Is it true you won't have to bill anymore?" Yes Virginia
Leaving big law very shortly, making the switch to plaintiff side PI, and other associates talk to me like I'm about to sail to Avalon.
Do you think that reactionary backlash hasn't had an effect on the film industry?
2029: Congress passes the Exurban Clearances Act. All farmland is seized and given to Blackrock. President Buttigieg declares it illegal to own a cow without being incorporated in Delaware.

a white republican getting to underwater with *white* americans would be, i think, a first in history for the modern republican party
