One Shot Collection: Final Bid (Law's Out 2)

A mysterious stranger arrives at Stone's Throw, a large, empty city, going through a bust. Join us as we play a one-shot in Final Bid (Law's Out 2) by Vel Mini and Grant.

This is a standalone episode, a great place for new listeners to start!
Podcast album art that is a drawing of a VHS tape coming out of a sleeve. The labels read Some Place to Be, one shot collection, Final Bid: Laws Out 2. The sleeve has a silhouette drawing of a balancing rock and an American western town in all warm colors. The background of the image is dark blue with yellow and pink gradient lines, reminiscent of a "coming soon to own on video and DVD" preview screen.

Disabled queer SEAsian needs 1600 for this month for rent, food, meds, + psych appointment.

Posting October early bc it's clear that I won't make my September goal.

Please help, I have no income. Still jobsearching after a traumatising welfare check.

And who fucking cares about adding some anachronistic elements? I think they totally work in-world and speak to the ever-relevance of Greek myths. Does Hadestown being based around blues music also make it a sleight against the myths it’s based on? Be for fucking real.

Also, Greek mythology is FULL of humour and ridiculous situations. That’s part of what makes it so interesting! That it’s not just stuffy and overly serious.

Also also if your only take on Aphrodite in Hades is that she’s just a flirt then I fear you’ve not understood the character

With "Can fantasy take itself seriously anymore?", the article establishes itself as a lament, a "correct way" unpursued and imo it follows up on that premise. I don't feel called to action, it just feels bitter. On another note, I also don't see how acceptance is a feminine trait. 🤷‍♀️

This article is exhausting. "People still worship these gods" lmao. Be for real
citizenmask.bsky.social
like literally play god of war or something, those games exist. demanding that dead gods for a dead religion HAVE to be treated with any modicum of ‘respect’ is once again, evangelical christianity american brain being applied to fictional deities

Going to a great burger joint and getting upset that they won't serve you fine Italian cuisine.

"[Dionysus and Aphrodite] are associated with shallow symbols of their domains." This is because they are power-ups. They're written in service to the gameplay, because that's what the developers wanted.

I gotta hand it to them, Endless Mode is an incredible name for a website about pretending it’s still 2016 lol

This is embarrassing for the author, Mythology isn't sacrosanct, and the most differing aspect between Hades II and classical Greek myth is the lack of rape.

This type of criticism reminds me of when people would complain about the mythological depictions in games like Odin Sphere or Valkyrie Profile.

“Uhm akshually Odin didn’t have a healthbar and three phases in the original texts 🤓”

No shit, this isn’t a documentary.

The issue with this sort of hand-wringing post about the accuracy or seriousness of using mythos as set dressing is that people have been doing this with Greek myth since before it even stopped being worshipped. Greek myth is folklore at best and it's always been malleable.

We get nigh-countless "Greek myth reinterpretations and retellings" every single year from all over the world and Greek people are never forbidden to worship them, but Hades has a take with more varied peoples as the Gods and its own vision for them and suddenly it's not "serious and sacred enough"

It occurs to me-US mainstream comics and their insularity at least got a ruthless dissection via 'outsiders' like Alan Moore and those that followed, but British comics pretty much never had such a moment.

Their historic insularity was never meaningfully broken or examined by any real outsider POVs
