Also, Greek mythology is FULL of humour and ridiculous situations. That’s part of what makes it so interesting! That it’s not just stuffy and overly serious.

With "Can fantasy take itself seriously anymore?", the article establishes itself as a lament, a "correct way" unpursued and imo it follows up on that premise. I don't feel called to action, it just feels bitter. On another note, I also don't see how acceptance is a feminine trait. 🤷‍♀️

The issue with this sort of hand-wringing post about the accuracy or seriousness of using mythos as set dressing is that people have been doing this with Greek myth since before it even stopped being worshipped. Greek myth is folklore at best and it's always been malleable.

We get nigh-countless "Greek myth reinterpretations and retellings" every single year from all over the world and Greek people are never forbidden to worship them, but Hades has a take with more varied peoples as the Gods and its own vision for them and suddenly it's not "serious and sacred enough"

It occurs to me-US mainstream comics and their insularity at least got a ruthless dissection via 'outsiders' like Alan Moore and those that followed, but British comics pretty much never had such a moment.

Their historic insularity was never meaningfully broken or examined by any real outsider POVs
