my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

I have reproduced the phenomenon of "there aren't a lot of chemistry books sold in brick-and-mortar retail" in San Sebastian/Donostia, Spain in a reasonably sized bookstore

2 full bookshelves in a commercial bookstore in San Sebastian, Spain. All the books are science related books

A small portion of one shelf that is dedicated to chemistry. There are about 20 bucks, one of them is a large textbook

I remember this great talk by a retired chemist in grad school about design of experiments stuff, and then he said "I have here a pamphlet with my mathematical proof for the existence of God of anyone wants to take a look" and I was like 'ya lost me there'

Think about how for decades, one of the ingredients of a crackpot was: retired engineer.

Retired engineers, for *generations* have been a fertile ground for crackpot theories in everything.

They get that golden watch and bam, incoherent manifesto about quantum archeology inbound.
