notice the general mood of the timeline? how everyone is in a good mood and there’s a lot less misery and dooming? how there’s a lot of “we’re going to beat these assholes”?

anyway that’s why these events are important
and only going to get worse over time when every single eligible candidate will have been recording their live & posting online since age 8.

like the need for complete tidy perfection prevents the most promising candidates for running, already!! hopefully people start getting over themselves.
I’ve spoken to multiple people I know from different areas of my life about running and the thing they all say is they “have too many pictures partying” or whatever. like we seriously have to stop acting like people should come out of the womb campaigning. it’s a big hurdle for a lot of folks.
and moving forward with millennials and Gen Zs running for office — everyone will have an internet history. we’re going to have to get used to that!!! if we want ANYONE to feel comfortable running.

A federal judge said "DHS, you cannot legally put this language into a grant." So what DHS did is... keep putting that language in grants — but with a new disclaimer saying it would only apply if the court order was struck down.

The judge was NOT happy.
Judge William Smith (W. Bush appointee): The Government has done "precisely what the ... [court's] Order forbids."

The case is Illinois v. FEMA

On Wednesday, we'll publish an updated catalogue of such judicial decisions on noncompliance with court orders at @justsecurity.org at the link below:
The “Presumption of Regularity” in Trump Administration Litigation
Comprehensive study of court cases involving Trump administration and the basis for courts no longer giving a "presumption of regularity."

What depresses me about this reporting is that it will lead to no introspection and very little accountability. We have just moved past any sort of world in which shame matters, or decency matters.
POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

4) What’s happening now is an attempt to render those sentiments acceptable in polite company & to make people feel guilty for having negative judgments about people who express their racism and anti-semitism.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.
After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society
What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Sunday reading:

I wrote about the aggrieved extremist who is currently firing thousands of federal workers and ravaging state capacity based on conspiratorial nonsense - and about mainstream media’s infuriating tendency to sanitize Russell Vought and the regime he serves.

This week’s piece:
We need to talk about Russell Vought – But Properly
Why certain mainstream outlets insist on sanitizing Vought as a devout “small government” conservative – and what actually animates his war against pluralistic democracy

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.

🐟 This month we’re celebrating National Seafood Month with a recovery success story–Pacific bluefin tuna is making a comeback! Historically, this iconic species suffered from overfishing but has made a dramatic turnaround thanks to global cooperation among countries around the Pacific.

I'm at the scene where ICE abducted multiple people from Lincoln and Foster this morning.

A WGN producer was among the people taken, allegedly because she was among a group of bystanders who tried to intervene. ICE agents hit this car while making their getaway.
