Excellent thread, agree with a lot if it, I would add though that we had a particularly high standard of TV drama in the UK which did not survive this shift, and this is why the 100 Greatest TV Shows lists which act like TV started in the 90s USA are particularly annoying to read.

The death of multi-camera TV: a thread. I know most of you will know the technical parts of this (and may have read it in the other place) but bear with me. 1/ 🧵
A shot from the studio rehearsal of Doctor Who: The Daleks' Master Plan episode 'Volcano', showing several actors ont he TARDIS set, with various video cameras around the scene.

Roisin is such a disappointment.

Kate Nash - GERM (UK, 2025)

I confess, I did not know that Kate was still recording in 2025, let alone that she would come out with this anti-TERF banger, and a banger with footnotes and sources too! YT comments full of furious TERFs too.

Just editing a collage on the 2000 US presidential election and it really feels like the beginning of the end for the USA as a democracy, more so than 9/11, 2008 financial crisis, Trump's elections, covid or anything else.

Charli XCX - Girl, So Confusing featuring Lorde (UK/New Zealand, 2024)

Not the track from Brat/BAICDBSB that I play most, but definitely the one most suitable to put in a time capsule of the early 2020s, a new kind of artistic dialogue emerging.

Well, when I was 12 we had this "young enterprise" thing at school where we all had to start a business, and I tried to sell chestnuts, and nobody bought them because they said they were "horse chestnuts" and didn't understand the difference. Sold one bag to my form tutor and he put it in the bin.

I've never heard of it before, always up for an unfunny late 80s Hollywood comedy though.

RIP. I had no idea that Manhattan Murder Mystery was a sequel to Father of The Bride.
She was further Oscar-nominated for her roles as activist Louise Bryant in Reds (1981), a leukemia patient in Marvin's Room (1996), and a dramatist in Something's Gotta Give (2003). She was known for her roles in dramatic films such as Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977), Interiors (1978), and Crimes of the Heart (1986), as well as comedic roles in Manhattan (1979), Baby Boom (1987), Father of the Bride (1991), its 1995 sequel, Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993), The First Wives Club (1996), The Family Stone (2005), Finding Dory (2016), and Book Club (2018).

Are you absolutely sure world leaders aren't laughing at you though?

Peeled 103, barely made a dent, think we have more than a thousand here. Fingernails are suffering. Brought it on myself.
A lot of unpeeled chestnuts, 103 peeled chestnuts 🌰

The quality of the shivving in our jails is clearly not what it was.

We do need to separate the art from the artist, so I have to say, if we look past his appalling crimes, his music was also shit.

Jodie Harsh - Hectic (UK, 2023)

A hyperpop-adjacent club house banger from the UK's biggest drag queen DJ, which got played a few times on Radio 1 and then apparently went completely unnoticed - well, not by me.

For people who aren't journalists, why would we want to waste our time following political "content" (ugh) of people we fundamentally disagree with? Is that what you think social media is, the obligation to listen to every crackpot, bigot and bore?
centuriesofsound.bsky.social
I just don't want to follow people who post stuff I don't like, whether that's politics or prejudice or just being a bore, life is too short to waste on that.

A friend just died of leukemia, was in his early 50s. I was going to record a desert island discs thing with him later this month. Saw him 11 days ago and he didn't look like he was about to die.

Enjoy yourself, friends, it's later than you think.

Like all of the best diss tracks it also works as self-criticism.
